Ok, confession, I bought my first item of maternity wear before I even got pregnant. I tried to talk myself out of it (as did others – it felt like tempting fate somehow), but I couldn’t help feeling I’d be annoyed at missing out on such a bargain that I could actually wear while not pregnant too. And, I did! You see, there’s this whole style of floaty dress where the waist seam is just that big higher and as long as you cover it with a belt no one need know…
This dress was purchase number 2 and it had that higher waist-seam and room for a bump but this time it was standard range, not maternity. So yay, no guilt! But it’s such a perfect dress for a pregnant lady! Stretchy and comfortable and flattering. At least, it’s flattering now while I’m not big… But I think this one really could have gone to the end, other than the fact I’m due in the height of summer and it’s a bit too warm for that!
So, I’m sort of thinking of this style of dress as a pregnancy staple and will keep my eye out for more. I’m sad it sold out so quickly – I only bought it before Christmas so I was hoping by the time I wore it for this purpose it might still be around, but alas. I’m annoyed I didn’t buy it in the green colourway too as I really am wearing this one to death right now! It was most excellent for disguising the little bump at work.
Hair bow: old (removed from a hairband)
Dress: Zara (last season’s – but this one from eShakti could be customised to be similar)

Tights: Primark (old)

Shoes: Lulu Hun (now out of stock)
I don’t know if it’s a coincidence that this is the first set of photos taken in my second trimester, but even though the weather was again pretty grey I feel like I’m less so, for once. Could it be that pregnancy glow?? I have to say, I’m not sure I buy into that as all the second trimester has brought me so far is zits and gas, but if it were to happen I’d really not complain…
I think I’m looking pregnant in these photos, but the bump is still merrily appearing and disappearing at whim, so I think it’s still 90% my lunch here. I’m told by many to expect from next week – week 17 – it’s probably here to stay…
Oh and a final shout-out for the amazing reader who gifted me this gorgeous vintage belt just because. I still can’t believe how kind that was! It makes blogging feel all that more worthwhile when lovely things like that happen.
Why miss – I do think you are glowing! That dress is really lovely on you. It’s always great to find a piece that’s both comfortable and stylish, and I’m sure that goes double when you’re expecting. Love the way the yellow brightens everything up.
This dress is soooo cute on you. When I was pregnant and found my ideal dress, I actually forked out and had it copied by a Tayloress in other stretchy fabrics.
The little neck-tie detail on that dress is what makes it special, it’s really mid-century isn’t it? I love it when you can pick up these vintage inspired bargains on the high street. The pops of yellow look great! xx
Grey is so underrated in my view and you make it work perfectly with the mustard-yellow notes. Just lovely! Kx
Ohhhh this dress will be fun to style! You can match any color with it, really! And then you’ve got a brand new outfit! GOOD FIND! Oh and I don’t blame you for snagging a maternity outfit before being pregnant. I snagged a few things in the past few years with my wedding in mind before we were even engaged. Sometimes you gotta take advantage of opportunities! I just call it efficient planning! 😉
You always look fab 😀 I wouldn’t have guessed you were pregnant, but then I’m not and have a ginormous belly regardless.
Awww I love to see the bump start to emerge! And this dress looks so incredibly comfy – like wearing a hug! It’s so hard when you buy a favorite item that you wear to death only to realize it’s sold out. That happens to me all the time with tights. I buy a pair, and then realize I should have bought 5 because after the inevitable run in them. I cry when I can’t find them anymore…. 😉
I love your combination of brown, grey and yellow here; It works really well. Also- that’s great you were able to find a dress that will work for both maternity or not.
You look gorgeous!!! that colour suits you so much!!!
xx Lucy
