Outfit: candy-stripe shorts – very brave or very stupid…

It looks like we might have seen the last of the summer in the UK… but wait, I still have these pictures to post! Unlike now, on this day it was about 29 degrees and full sunshine and humidity, so this pair of shorts I bought last year were brought for the first time into the outside… to either the admiration or the horror of the British public.
You see, now that I’m in my late 20s I can’t figure out if I’m ‘allowed’ to wear short shorts anymore… But the day I wore these was so darn hot I stopped caring. Us Brits can’t really cope with weather more than 27 degrees – we don’t have air-con anywhere, we’ve got wardrobes full of heat-inappropriate clothes and it’s such a change from what we’re used to that we tend to spend every minute complaining about it.
What do you think, would you wear shorts this short? Owing to how self-conscious I felt, let’s just say it might be the last year for me…

Nothing wrong with shorts that length – or whatever length because it's your body and you should do what you want regardless of what anyone says πŸ™‚ I really need to get myself a gypsy top like that, I know I keep saying it but I always get distracted and forget!

True, true… I just fear putting my cellulite on display, like I shouldn't be or something! Mind you, it barely came out in these pictures so maybe it's not as bad as I think! Gypsy tops are so comfortable – I highly recommend!

Yes, you are ALLOWED to when you look like that!! I think it's about knowing what kind of shorts look good on you. I can never pull off tighter shorts – I need a baggier one or a skort. Doesn't matter that I'm 27 now I never looked good in short shorts anyway! But damn you look hot missy!!! So yes definitely allowed!

That's true – sometimes you suit things, sometimes you don't – although I fail to see how you'd look bad in anything, Nora! I've always had to avoid hotpants – they look so, so awful. But thanks for your reassuring comments on these ones πŸ™‚ x

Hey, I'm 35 and still wear short shorts shamelessly. So I think you've got a few good summers in these . As they say, legs are the last to go.

    • August 26, 2014 / 12:28 pm

Ha, they do? All I've ever heard is 'you can't keep both your body and your face' … I'm yet to see which of mine I lose… maybe until then I can keep the shorts!

I have worn even shorter ones πŸ˜€ and you look great in them so don't you worry. love the outfit. the shorts are so cute and remind me of a candy shop!

    • August 26, 2014 / 12:29 pm

I get Candyman going round my head every time I put them on, funnily enough!

I think the shorts look great on you, the whole outfit is just very pretty! I'm pretty self-conscious of short shorts just because I think I look super weird in them but when it's hot, it's HOT and I just don't care and wear them anyway lol!

    • August 26, 2014 / 12:29 pm

That was basically the decision-making process here… the sun gave me no choice πŸ˜‰

  6. August 24, 2014 / 3:24 pm

Absolutely delectable! Those shorts look great on you – like another commenter, I am not sure that tighter shorts are the most flattering on me, but they look super on you. I am 35, and I wear lots of things that the magazines tell you not to when you're that age, but then, they make up 'rules' just to have something to say.

Where abouts in Spain are you headed? We're going to Nerja. Nine days to go, wooo!! x

    • August 26, 2014 / 12:31 pm

That's true, magazines make it up as they go along! I've never really gone in for those features, but shorts is one thing I'm perpetually undecided about… but then, people are saying such nice things here – you included – that perhaps I should persevere!

I'm heading to Valencia, but not until the start of October. I'll probably see your holiday snaps before I go! Feels like it's ages away!! x

I don't think you're ever "too old" for certain things. There aren't really any rules for fashion, except to dress in a way that makes you comfortable and happy. I have a hard time finding shorts that fit right, but if I found a pair that looked as good on me as these ones look on you, I'd be living in them when it's hot out.
What I mean to say is that you look great in these, and shouldn't feel like you have to put them away because of some kind of age restriction. And if that's something that you really feel strongly about, you look like you're about 18, so you could probably get 10 more years out of them if you really wanted to. πŸ˜›

    • August 26, 2014 / 12:33 pm

I think that's the overwhelming opinion of everyone who's commented – so perhaps I should listen!

And funny you should say I look like I'm about 18… that seems to be the opinion of every alcohol retailer in this country too. And these days, at 28, I'm really not complaining!! I've definitely reached that age where being ID'ed is a compliment…

I think you can definitely pull off short shorts: you look amazing in them!

I have a completely illogical approach to shorts, in that I'll wear them on holiday, but I don't think I've ever worn them at home. I think it's because I feel like it's easier to "get away with" things when it's really hot – which it hardly ever is here, obviously!

These shorts are beautiful on you. The color and print is perfect for the summer and you've totally inspired me to pull out my dress with the very same print on it!
