Outfit: a maxi in Mauritius

So, it’s spring now apparently (and Easter – happy chocolate eating!). If someone could just tell the dreary weather, I’d appreciate it. Oh, what I’d give to be on a tropical beach right now. This winter has felt the hardest possibly ever. It’s not just the cold – it’s the never-ending grey sky. I could deal with cold if there was a bit of sun now and then. In protest, I’ve finally done what I threatened to do earlier this year – I’m throwing my long overdue final outfit post from our Mauritius honeymoon at you – just to see the sun again… So don’t be alarmed that my bump has completely disappeared – believe me it’s still very much here in real life!
There’s no reason I didn’t post these photos nearer the time other than that the weeks ran away from me and then I felt like a bit of a loon posting my latest summer outfit when all the new autumn/winter clothes started coming out. I don’t feel much less crazy now really, but at least summer is closer than the next winter, eh?! It’s actually the first time I’ve worn a casual maxi on this blog and I think only the second time I’ve worn one at all. It’s exceptionally hard to find nice maxi dresses when you’re 5’1″. Sure, you can alter them but honestly what a hassle – and forget border prints. Can you imagine my surprise when I found this dress in my local supermarket and it fit perfectly?! Because believe me, there was surprise. Then I thought maybe I didn’t like it after all – but I think that was just because I was so unused to seeing myself in a long summer dress like this and felt out of my comfort-zone. Now, I know I love it. Other British-based shorties out there – seriously, keep an eye on Sainsbury’s for maxis because they all were this length last season.
How can you not like something that’s this comfy and easy to throw on, but immediately looks like you’ve made an effort? It was perfect for daytime wearing on honeymoon while we walked round a botanical park, which is where these photos were taken. After the world’s hairiest bus ride to get there. We were determined to avoid the local taxi service wherever possible (they absolutely fleece tourists if they can get away with it – as we found) and that meant public transport. Apparently those buses can go about twice as fast as British buses. B and I made the mistake of thinking it was ok to stand up like we might back home – let’s just say it’s fine if you’ve ever wanted to experience what it’s like to be a pinball. A maxi dress wasn’t such a great idea on that bus as I kept tripping over it while being flung around, but for a much more pleasant walk around a beautiful garden – no problemo. And to be honest, I’d do it all again because I’m sensible like that.

Will I get a big baby bump under this dress this summer? We will see! I’m definitely hoping to find a maxi or two I can wear when I’m big in the peak of summer (in fact I already found one that was technically a long midi, and super pretty :D).

Hold the phone – you found this at your local supermarket? AMAZING! It’s beautiful! I love the off-the-shoulder sleeves and the way the flowers fall down the dress. Ugh, it’s SNOWING as I read this so yeah, some Spring weather would be nice!!

I am totally now wanting a tropical honeymoon – I can see the warm sunshine and feel the ice cold fruity drink in my hand now!!

You look so tropical and lovely! This dress is really beautiful on you, and I think you could absolutely rock this with your baby bump this summer. I really like how you’ve styled it, with the bamboo hoops and the hair flower. It’s been dreary here in Chicago as well, so I love a little reminder that summer will be here soon!

This maxidress looks absolutely stunning on you! I miss the warm days, now that the sky is still grey and the weather is still so very cold.

Ahhh I love the print on this dress! I tend to shy away from maxis (I’m so tall that I have always struggled to find the right length), but I get a bit envious cause they just look so darn comfy. You look stunning!
