Outfit: winter tropics

First outfit post of the year kicking off right here, right now! This one is a classic case of: can I make a summery style winter-appropriate? Because this palm leaf print is too good not to wear year-round! I love the colours – and January is pretty bleak and definitely needs all the colours. I mean, you can tell from the lighting in these photos that everything is looking g-r-e-y right now – and I feel like that includes my skin. Sigh.

Anyway, this is another dress from Karina Dresses – and it’s just as comfortable and easy to wear as the one before. I received a couple of dresses from Karina to review this time around and I can honestly say they were great friends over the Christmas period. You can eat til your heart’s content in these beauties – they’ll forgive you; they’ll just expand with your waistline, no problem. The only downside was that my puppy has decided my dresses are THE most fun thing to bite/attack, so I would be walking along only to find he was dangling off the back of my skirt, threatening to put a big hole in it. But kudos to these dresses again, he managed to do zero damage to them with his needle teeth. Unlike my Collectif jumper dress, which has a lovely big plucked thread (right on the bust, that one was a jump-and-bite), and my Hell Bunny pinny which I’ve already explained he managed to ruin within minutes of me putting it on.

But, it sure is too cold to wear a sleeveless dress right now, hence a few more layers were needed here. And yeah, maybe layering a top underneath like this doesn’t look very ‘vintage’, but meh, most the time nor do I. I just wear what I like! I think we know by now I’m not one to stick to authenticity.

This dress is from Karina Dresses’ new ‘Resort’ range, which just went live with three styles in this pretty print. I’m definitely nowhere near a tropical paradise right now, but I’ll definitely be bringing it back out for the warmer weather too!

I struggle sometimes with winterising dresses, it never looks as good as what you’ve done here! I hear you about the need for colour, it’s been drab drab drab. I have been wearing a few bright dresses on repeat to work. Need more I think, all those autumnal tones of dark reds and greens don’t cut it!

Lovely dress, best keep the puppy away! Xx

Very cute! Sometimes you need a little tropical print when it’s cold out to cheer you up, and bonus points for being puppy proof! Loving the bouncy pony tail as well.

I love adding a little something to summer dresses so I can wear them year-round… tights, boots and a cardi with a dress instead of sandals and I’m set for most of the year! Glad I’m not the only one who does it.

Summer clothes are just SO MUCH better than winter clothes, so dressing them for cold weather helps keep me sane during the bad months!!

Actually I think a top underneath is what makes this look extra vintage, that was such a big thing with 60s mini dresses! I’m glad that this dress managed to escape the baby polar bear teeth having a nibble!

Actually, you’re right! Don’t know how I didn’t think of that, I can totally picture it now. I guess because I didn’t style the rest as 60s, my brain didn’t make the connection 😉

Ohhh you’re totally inspiring me to get my layer on! I tend to winterize my dresses with tights and a cardigan, but I may need to broaden the horizons with some long sleeved t-‘s under my dresses. 🙂 And I personally LOVE breaking free of whatever the rulebook says is “authentically vintage.” You know I’m a gal who LOVES her 1950’s, but I’m always pairing my vintage with things that aren’t true to era, and I think that’s what our fab personal style is all about. My favorite looks (on myself and others) are the ones that mix eras, pair modern shoes with vintage dresses, and goes with whatever feels authentically me on any given day. You look fabulous – and now I’m off to take a leaf out of your book and find a solid shirt to put under my vintage this week! 😉

😀 so pleased to be in any way inspiring to anyone, but especially someone who’s already darn stylish without my help 😉
