Outfit: biking out of summer

The awkward summer/autumn limbo-land we're in never seems to get any easier for me - it's positively one of my least favourite times of year. I know, I'm meant to call it 'transitional' and be all 'yay, pumpkin spice!', but I'm not going to pretend I like autumn. Or winter (but at least by winter I'm resigned to the cold). Or any time I have to wear 10 layers to leave the house. Add to that I've been feeling out of sorts since the wedding anyway (which is nothing to do with B I hasten to add) and to put it perfectly bluntly I'm kind of down in the dumps right now. That's just how it is, and having read Amber's post recently about how bloggers are always so afraid to be negative online and apologising for it, I thought you know what, I'm just telling it like it is today. I'm wondering if the post-wedding blues is a thing... if it is, I have it.

Low spirits or not, it's good to have this blog as something to focus on and invest my energy into, even when I really don't feel like it. And also to remind me there were happier times and there will be again. Like when these photos were taken, which was admittedly some weeks ago now - I think it was actually pre-wedding in fact. The sun was shining and I was wearing a cute outfit that features my favourite t-shirt. I styled this before in a more autumnal look, but this one is pure summer joy.

Anyone who follows along on Instagram will know the hilarious truth about this bike... It is a children's bike (with a mortifying name). In actual fact, I do think it's a bit small for me, but there wasn't an adult bike in the UK I could reach the ground on. Classic bike manufacturers - sort it out! (There was in fact one brand that I thought did have a frame the right size, but as they're made to order I wasn't willing to risk it for the price.) Anyway, a favourite summer activity is to bike with B along the riverside to a nearby village, although usually I'm not wearing these shoes. I will admit, I didn't go far on the bike the day we took these ;)

  1. Sorry you're feeling low! I love the way you've done this scarf in your hair. Autumn is my favorite season partly because I feel like I am wearing the right clothes both indoors and out of doors. In summer, it's hot outside, but cold everywhere indoors (work, stores, my house), so I'm always either freezing or sweating!

  2. Post wedding blues is totally a thing! You've spent ages focused on one event, working at making it perfect, thinking about it constantly, worrying, being excited. Then it's over. After our wedding I felt lost for a couple of months because it was like I couldn't remember what I used to do in my free time except wedding planning and crafting. It fades and everything balances back out but it was definitely a weird time for me. Hope you feel more like yourself soon! :)

  4. People who don't like autumn unite! I'm convinced there are more of us out there than it seems, but the internet is so awash with pumpkin spice lattes and people wetting themselves with excitement over boots and tights that I always feel like a total freak in comparison! Anyway, when I saw your photo of this bike/outfit yesterday, I thought it was just about the cutest thing I'd seen all day: and I'd never have guessed it was a children's bike, either! (I never, ever cycle, but I secretly want a pretty bike just to pose on...)

  5. Feeling blue aside = you look so cute in this outfit, ready to take off on your bike! Haha hope you feel better soon. Changes of seasons can be so hard for people - especially if they aren't a fan of the ones to come!

  7. How cute are you! I love the printed t-shirt and jeans, and that scarf works so perfectly with the top. You look absolutely adorable. I'm pretty sure I would also hop on a kids bike if it matched my outfit that well!
And of course you're feeling a bit down in the dumps - I think it's kind of natural after having what is likely to be one of the biggest days in your life. It's like when you come home from a really great vacation, and you just need time to find your equilibrium again.

  8. I hope you are feeling brighter now that your honeymoon is looming - a bit of sunshine and warmth always helps. It's weird because I too did have a really down spell this summer that I can't explain, but it did pass - hang in there.
I did chuckle about the child's bike - I ride a man's one! Such a lovely cycling outfit, love the headscarf and the little shorts. It's almost a bit '70s - a good thing in my book!

  9. I love that you and B go for bike rides together! I would never have guessed this is a kids bike, I'm a big fan of the colour so it looks perfect to me. Not to mention it looks great with this outfit! I was actually planning on buying an Atomic Swag tee myself but then couldn't settle on one because they all had pinups on them and the one time my husband wore a shirt with a pinup on it some of my conservative family members were horrified...awkward :P But then I'm really fond of the hula girl and sailors tee that they recently released so I might just get it!
