Outfit: baby blue

One of the reasons I don't wear dresses, as I've mentioned before, is it's so hard to get the fit right when you're petite and your torso, legs and shoulders are smaller than average. I've never owned a swing style from Collectif because the skirts are far too long on me and the bust line usually hits me in wrong place... until now! The Jade dress is a gamechanger.

First up, adjustable straps. Hallelujah, there's been so many dresses with adjustable straps this year and may it long continue! So, that's the top half sorted. What about the skirt? Oh hello, you look familiar... It's based on the Jasmine style - and the Jasmine style is a winner because it's a much more wearable length for the short (I'm also wearing it here and here). Add these two things together and we have a swing dress I can wear without a trip to the tailor. It's also in this gorgeous shade of baby blue, which just happens to be one of my favourite colours. You're going to be seeing a lot more of this colour in my wedding photos!

The only thing that makes me sad about this dress is that I felt amazing in it, but I don't think it translated completely into the photos. Some clothes are just like that - you look in the mirror and think 'hell yes!' and then you look at 200+ blog photos and think 'er...hang on...' And I really can't work out what it is that's off. I mean, it doesn't look bad, don't get me wrong, I just saw it differently in the mirror. Oh well, it's not always about being picture perfect because every other time I wear this dress I'm not going to be taking 200 photos of it! So, if it makes me feel great that's good enough for me.

    1. There seems to be a lot of love for the colour - I never really thought of it as suiting me, I just know I love it, so it's a bonus if it does :D

  2. Well I'm going to strongly disagree with you on this one - because you really make this dress and it looks beautiful on you! I especially love all of the accessories you've picked to go with it! Not sure quite what it is but this outfit really makes me think spring in Paris - maybe it's the pastels and the pretty avenue of trees in these photos.

    1. I think it's quite well suited to shorties because the waist-line is quite high, so it sits in quite a natural place. If only I was in Paris this spring, if only!! Reality is this is that same business park I do all my photos in lately!

  3. Utterly gorgeous! The red lips and nails are magic against that shade of blue. It looks like the dress is a fantastic fit also. It is rare indeed to get the right straps, waist and length all in one.

I know exactly what you mean about mirror vs camera - this has happened to me a few times in the past couple of months. I've definitely learnt to go with how I feel more than how it looks (cue a huge wardrobe cull as a result!).

    One month tomorrow... xx

    1. The poor little brooch didn't show up too well in these photos, but she was a great match I thought :)

    1. Another one of my successful 'buy in the sale, wait for perfect moment to wear' those flowers were!

  6. You look gorgeous! I love this shade of blue on you, it looks so pretty with your chestnut hair and fair skin. I love an adjustable strap too, although for the opposite reason - I've got a really long torso, and dresses tend to be a little bit short waisted on me. I don't know what sort of issues you're seeing, but I think you look perfect here.

    1. I genuinely didn't even think this colour suited me, but everyone's saying otherwise :) I don't know what I'm not liking about these pictures either, but you can't love 'em all when you are constantly looking through photos of yourself, lolz!

  10. I think you look adorable in it!

(200+ photos? Ay caramba. I don't think I go into double figures usually. Maybe I should put more effort in.)

  11. Really loving Collectif's colour palette this Summer. I'd never have thought of pairing red lips and nails with this shade, but it looks great! x
