Outfit: strawberry mojito

Continuing on with the drink theme, as we've just had pink lemonade, this outfit with its mint and red tones together could only be a strawberry mojito! It feels quite appropriate to have a cocktail themed outfit straight after my hen weekend - which was amazing! I'm not particularly planning to share photos from the weekend because to be frank we were too busy having fun to take tonnes of them, but my Instagram has some peeps at my Moulin Rouge costume I mentioned last post.

Anyway, back to the outfit, I was really excited about the idea of Collectif's mix and match sets when I first saw them at London Edge - I love separates, this could only be up my street! But oh wait, what's this? Cut out sides? That will take more getting used to... Now, don't get me wrong, I am quite aware I'm slim by most people's standards at a size 8-10, but let me be very clear about one thing - toned I am not. Size 8-10 people have squishy bits if they don't firm them up (and remember, I'm short, size 8-10 looks different on me than on taller people!)! And I definitely have them on my sides, as I think most people probably do. But, you don't know what something will be like until you try sometimes!

I haven't air-brushed these photos so yeah, you can see where I have a little bit of squidge it sometimes makes itself known. But you know, I can live with it - and actually I think it's partly being caused by this particular bra cutting in too tightly and too low so I can always experiment with foundations! Even though sometimes a bit of skin goes awol, this set is still somehow really flattering. It's probably got something to do with the gloriously full skirt. This skirt is based on the Jasmine style, which as I've mentioned before is my favourite swing skirt. I will 100% wear it with other tops too. The Talis sets come in this mint green and navy, with the options of shorts or a pencil skirt too. I'm really hoping to see the shorts in the green colourway for that honeymoon wardrobe!

And yep, it's that time of year the strawberry bag comes back out! Hurrah! (It's not in stock now but I believe it's coming back this summer). I also make no apologies for the fact I'm wearing these hair flowers for the second outfit in the row - I think they might be attached to my head permanently now because I love them so much. Holly's range is really expanding this year and I love her flower duo clips too - I've just picked myself up some yellow ones that I wore to afternoon tea for my hen weekend :)

  1. I'll have a strawberry mojito please! Mint and red are glorious together - as you've shown in outfits before - so it's nice to seem them reunited. You really are looking beautiful in the run up to your wedding, despite the stress you must be feeling! This is another really super look. I need to try more mint and red!

Like I said on your Instagram, this design must have been based on a vintage pattern I found recently (and didn't buy - it was far too small and too expensive!), and thought "Oh, that's just like the Collectif set!". I think the original was a bit more '60s than '50s though, I vaguely remember the skirt being more of an a-line shorter one. I'll check in that shop again, I should have at least photographed it!!

    1. I basically love anything with red :D Aw that's so nice of you to say - and I need the confidence boost this close to being gawked at for a day solid ;)

So sad that you went back for the pattern and it had gone :( xx

  2. You look lovely, any wisp of squidge - and it would only be a wisp - be damned. Wear it while you can. I'm jolly glad I wore loads of strappy dresses when I was young, because nowadays I need industrial-grade bras and simply can't.

I'd never have thought of pairing mint with red, and it looks super.

    1. Exactly, you're only young(ish) once right! I do need a lot of bust support (if it doesn't look it, it's probably because I've had to learn to dress a proportionately large chest!), so I'm always relying on strapless bras for strappy dresses. But many, many strapless bras are no good on me at all and it's taken years to find the ones that work (the best solution for me is the What Katie Did merry widows, which go up to my cup size thank goodness!).

  3. This is a really cool concept - I am yet to see any other brands do this! I love the colour on you and I can see how this is going to be a great addition for your wardrobe, that skirt is so perfect for summer. I hope you will be able to get the shorts too, then you will have several days of honeymoon outfits sorted without having to pack too much...not that there's any blogger out there who can go on holiday and help over packing :P

    1. I love it so much when brands do something completely different - part of the appeal with this set, for sure. I'm keeping a beady eye out for the shorts :D But yes it won't stop me packing more outfits than I have chance to wear, particularly as everything I have acquired this year seems to be for said honeymoon...!

  4. You look so beautiful and so amazing in this set, I love the red accessories with it too! I loved this outfit when I saw it in the lookbook and I really hope that I can make the set mine eventually x

    1. It's a lot of fun - and I love the stripey material that's coming later in the season too. I think only in the navy stripe colourway, so I perhaps picked wrong with not getting the navy set, but I can't resist mint...

  5. I think you look gorgeous. Don't worry so much about squishy bits, we all have them and they make us human. Also squishy is the best for vintage style! x

    1. Very true - curves for the win! Even if they're not quite in all the places I want them ;) x

  6. Oh my gosh, this is just too cute. Squishy bits - PLEASE! But I hear you, everyone's got them! This outfit would feature my back rolls so perfectly! I call them my wings. LOL!! Yay for not being toned at all! I love pasta and ice cream too much - I'll live with my chubby belly and back rolls LOL!!!

    1. Exactly! There's very little food I don't like and very little restraint I show when eating it. I seem to be at that lucky point in my life where it hasn't quite caught up with me, but I do watch it more now than I did. If there's a chocolate bar in front of me I WILL eat the entire thing and still want more...

  7. I love the idea of separates, and when I first saw this range I was quite excited. But then... the cut-outs. While it looks good on you and I am sure many other girls, I think a bunch of us will be completely put off by them... me included. A pity...

    1. I completely understand that feeling - have you seen Miss Amy May's review of this set on her blog? I believe she is around a size 16-18 and she looks cracking in it. But she certainly had the exact same doubts before trying it...

  8. Glad to hear you had fun over the weekend! This set is positively adorable and you look stunning in mint. That bag adds the perfect spring/summer touch and I'm loving red with that mint.

I feel like I would be a tad bit self-conscious wearing something with the sides cut out, but you are rocking it.

    1. It does feel like a bigger deal than I'm sure it is to anyone who actually looks at you. It's just so against the norm to have your waist on show like this, particularly as you get older!! I never really went for it even in the 90s though - the 90s was the decade of puppy fat for me... xx

  9. I'm loving both of these colours together, the strawberry red and mint green! I've been eyeing of this dress, I do love the style of it and it looks stunning on you! :)

  10. What a lovely look! I really like the minty green with the vivid red of your accessories, and I don't know if you're mixing things up in the lip color department or it's just picking up on the red in your bag, but this lipstick looks extra luscious on you. I really like the cutouts on the dress, actually - they keep it from feeling like just another sundress.
