Sometimes you come across an item of clothing that isn’t really like what you normally wear but there’s something about it you still rather like. This dress, for me, was one such piece. I almost never wear head-to-toe black clothing (this previous outfit is as close as it gets and, well, I had bright yellow legs). I find black a really boring colour – and quite an overwhelming one when you’re petite and pale. But this dress… something about it really caught my attention.
I think it’s a combination of two things: 1) the cute red buttons all the way down and 2) the unusual neckline. Couple this with the fact that I had a strong feeling it would be a good length on me and I rather wanted it. I wasn’t disappointed when it arrived. And can I just give a round of applause to Hell Bunny for giving this dress adjustable straps? There are hidden buttons in the back and it’s genius and I wish all brands did it. In fact, Voodoo Vixen are well on top of adjustable straps this season too and I couldn’t be happier. For the petite, it makes such a difference taking off that inch or so you don’t need so that the top sits in the right place. Anyway, this aside, this dress is incredibly flattering. I love the length it is on my 5’1″ frame and everything is hitting in the right place. It’s going in the tropical honeymoon pile (yes, that mythical honeymoon I haven’t actually booked), for sure.
One of the good things about black dresses is how easy it is to accessorise them. This one gave me some good cues in the form of the cute embroidery, so it was time to crack out my cherry Westwood heels. I picked these up a while ago secondhand as a bit of a unicorn, but they were waiting for the day I had an embroidered cherry on my clothes to make their debut. And then I found a tree with matching blossom down the road and these photos were born. One of my favourite ever sets, even if I did get the pictures on the side of an extremely busy road and B nearly got run over twice. One must suffer for one’s art… Or rather, B must suffer for mine 😉
