Outfit: everyday princess

I tried to resist that most cliche of fashion blogger cliches, I really did… but it happened in the end. I got a tulle skirt.
I hope you don’t think less of me now… I promise, I still have original ideas! Or at least, more original than this one. What can I say, I too have that little girl inside me that just wants to wear a big princess dress all day. I haven’t met many women who don’t have this inner child – although I think for many it lays dormant until we one day shop for our wedding dress and BAM gimme ALL the skirt! I know very many people who’ve gone shopping for a sleek, chic wedding dress and came out of the shop seeming bewildered that they had bought the biggest dress in the shop. I totally get it. It’s hard to find a time to wear a huge dress and for it to be appropriate outside of the most dressed up day of your life. That, to me, is the underlying reason why so many women love the tulle skirt – lots of us secretly love the girly girl drama and it’s a way to work it into your day-to-day look.
So that’s exactly what I’ve tried to do with this Lindybop skirt. And no, it’s not original and it’s not clever, to wear one with a stripey top, but… so what. Cliches are often cliches for a reason – it looks good. This skirt is three layers of tulle over a satin-y underskirt and it’s pretty good for the everyday, actually, because it’s not too big. I’ve got my canvas underskirt on here, but the satin lining is quite closely fitted so I’m not sure it added much volume, if any, in the end. This is not a ballerina-esque tulle skirt like you sometimes see, it is just quite a good one for the daytime, if you like that kind of thing. I’m wearing a 10 here because the size guide indicated the 8 would have been too small – it probably would have been although the 10’s a bit too big. I’d say follow the waist size on the guide for this one. I haven’t altered the length, and do bear in mind if you’re taller than my 5’1″ it’s going to be closer to the knee on you.

It's a classic look, one that bears repeating (though how do you pronounce 'tulle'?!) You look ever so sweet and Princess-like here, I can see just how pleased you are with the poufy swish that skirt gives! It's just the right length on you for a daytime look too. You're very on trend with this, the tulle is back this year.

I actually wore a mahoosive tulle gown last week, I went to see the Red Shoes. It was an '80s charity shop purchase that I'd never worn, and was going to sell on, when I realised it was just the thing to wear to the ballet. I didn't take any photos at all so will have to repeat for the blog! There's no way I'm parting with it now… xx

There's not many times I can say I'm on trend 😀

That dress sounds epic – we definitely need to be seeing it! xx

Oh I LOVE it! I've seen this skirt and debated getting it many times but hadn't SEEN it on anyone so I wasn't sure. But I think I'll snag one now since when I am working on site at conferences in our booths, I can only wear black. I like to find new ways to sneak in my style even when limited and this may be my new booth skirt!!! <3

Yeah it's good because it's not too OTT – some tulle skirts would only look right in a performance of Swan Lake, they're so massive. Glad to be of service 😉

Just because something is trendy or popular or cliche does not mean you can't like it too 🙂
I have always wanted a tulle skirt too, and I really like how you have styled this one for "every day".

Very true! I wish I'd come up with something more original than a striped shirt, but no regrets!!

Wow I love this stripped top with that tulle skirt, you look wonderful! xo

I remember having a tulle skirt years ago, when I was a little girl, (I've got it from one of my aunts). I used even in winter, inside the house.
One day I went to close to the fireplace and the skirt caught on fire!…
I didn't burn myself but the skirt was destroyed 🙁
Well, leason learned, be careful with the fireplace.

Apart from that little history, I like the way you put together the stripped top with the skirt, the shoes (oh the shoes!), the belt, and everything!

Spring is already here, but the weather doesn't seem to be very kind, just changing all the time.
I do not know what to wear, lol!

Have a great end of March,

Yikes!! Sorry to make you relive your childhood trauma! I don't think I'd be wearing a tulle skirt ever again if that had happened to me… I agree, this weather is a nightmare! It gets quite mild by the end of the day but the mornings going to work are horribly cold. What can one do with that?!

Totally regretting not buying those houndstooth shoes right now!! I love this look! I like the mix of the stripe with the hounds tooth, which I think is a pretty unique detail!

Haha you've picked up on my one attempt to be original 😉

I have always wanted a tulle skirt and you make me want one even more! Maybe it is cliche and so what if it is because it looks awesome! You wear it so well, I love the stripes and those gorgeous shoes x

They're just a lot of fun, you can't help but feel a bit happy wearing something like this x

Looks very lovely and the cliche makes it even better <3

I also thought about trying out Lindy Bop's tulle skirts, since I have one from Hell Bunny (in burgundy and then I have a black strapless tulle dress as well), but didn't quite manage to convince myself to buy one. I like my skirts very poofy so it's probably better I didn't, I'd just get frustrated trying to fit a separate petticoat or crinoline underneath 😀

So cute on you! I love the way you styled it and love it with all the bows <3

Things only become cliches because they're exciting and interesting enough that people want to try it for themselves. That's not a bad thing! It just means that this is a super cute outfit that any girl would be happy to spend a day in, myself included.
Love how you've styled this. The black, white, and pink combo is really cute, and I love the little bit of pattern mixing going on, with the houndstooth shoes and the striped top. I like your hair like this as well – it's just a bit different on you, and very cute.
