Outfit: beach belle

The last post from me before the honeymoon, so it felt fitting that it involved a beach... although this beach is very much a British one with not a palm tree in sight!

I picked this dress up in Collectif's summer sale last year, which is a bit mean of me cos now you all can't get it... But this style seems to have entered Collectif's permanent rotation and has appeared ever since in different colourways, which is great to see. The stripes of this one definitely feel nautical, so it was a good match for my lobster necklace and a seaside scene like this one.

And that's really all I have to say today, there's a lot of packing that doesn't seem to be doing itself...

Outfit: biking out of summer

The awkward summer/autumn limbo-land we're in never seems to get any easier for me - it's positively one of my least favourite times of year. I know, I'm meant to call it 'transitional' and be all 'yay, pumpkin spice!', but I'm not going to pretend I like autumn. Or winter (but at least by winter I'm resigned to the cold). Or any time I have to wear 10 layers to leave the house. Add to that I've been feeling out of sorts since the wedding anyway (which is nothing to do with B I hasten to add) and to put it perfectly bluntly I'm kind of down in the dumps right now. That's just how it is, and having read Amber's post recently about how bloggers are always so afraid to be negative online and apologising for it, I thought you know what, I'm just telling it like it is today. I'm wondering if the post-wedding blues is a thing... if it is, I have it.

Low spirits or not, it's good to have this blog as something to focus on and invest my energy into, even when I really don't feel like it. And also to remind me there were happier times and there will be again. Like when these photos were taken, which was admittedly some weeks ago now - I think it was actually pre-wedding in fact. The sun was shining and I was wearing a cute outfit that features my favourite t-shirt. I styled this before in a more autumnal look, but this one is pure summer joy.

Anyone who follows along on Instagram will know the hilarious truth about this bike... It is a children's bike (with a mortifying name). In actual fact, I do think it's a bit small for me, but there wasn't an adult bike in the UK I could reach the ground on. Classic bike manufacturers - sort it out! (There was in fact one brand that I thought did have a frame the right size, but as they're made to order I wasn't willing to risk it for the price.) Anyway, a favourite summer activity is to bike with B along the riverside to a nearby village, although usually I'm not wearing these shoes. I will admit, I didn't go far on the bike the day we took these ;)

Outfit: rockabilly western (+ WIN A DRESS from Happy Yellow Dress)

So I finally ticked something off my Ultimate Photoshoot Locations list - a corn field! Luckily for me, we have a popular annual summer 'maize maze' in the area - and even more fortunately, the weather stopped raining for five seconds so we could go check it out.

I knew exactly what dress was crying out to be snapped here, this adorable shirt dress from Happy Yellow Dress. This brand, based in Canada, has been going for six years and is the brainchild of designer and owner Debbie, who is also a super lovely lady. I love seeing vintage-inspired designs that are a little bit different to the standard retro fare and that's exactly what Happy Yellow Dress offers. I really love the Cry to Me/Hula Love co-ord set and this stunning Viola dress from the range, along with this one I'm featuring today.

This Rockabilly Gal dress is a lot of fun to wear. I love the western-style piping and the cute sleeves. You'll all spot it has pockets too! The size guide is pretty accurate for this one, but if you're between sizes or busty you'll need to size up so you don't have gaping buttons. This dress was the perfect companion for my little red cowboy boots (that I bought off Porcelina's thrifty husband!), matching brooch and my new favourite thing - my ponytail extension! If you're thinking I suddenly look like I have a lot more hair, it's all fakery. I never thought I'd find clip-in fake hair in my colour, but the day has come!

So, let's show you those photos and I'll tell you how you can win your very own Happy Yellow Dress!

Outfit: last of the summer flowers

Well, that's a kind of morose title isn't it? I do get a little down at this time of year though, when the summer is coming to an end and the flowers disappear in my little garden. Summer is my favourite season and I'm always sad to see it go. In true UK fashion, after a fabulous start, the rest of the summer has been diabolical and once again I feel totally cheated of the sunshine days. I'm refusing to let go of my summer wardrobe though and will take any opportunity to wear a pretty summer dress like this one - which this blog is very good at providing!

I was really pleased to be asked to review this dress because it's by a brand I hadn't tried before but had been seeing a lot about online - Wax Poetic. I love finding new brands to stalk! And this one is worth your time because the dresses are so pretty. I really love the Aphrodite dress too (I think it's coming back into stock soon), although that one probably wouldn't be as friendly on the petite as today's style is.

So let's introduce you to the Bed of Roses dress! A pretty authentic looking vintage floral pattern combined with a gorgeous shape, what's not to love? You know, it has pockets too... Now, if you only wear midi length skirts and you're above average height, this might not be the dress for you, I'm not going to lie. I'll remind you I'm 5'1", although I'll add to that that I seem to lack the most length in my lower leg and torso, and I don't think it's going to be a mini-skirt unless you're super tall for that reason. This dress fit me like a glove - and I've talked many times about how unusual that is; I alter a lot of the pieces I feature on this blog (even if it's just rolling sleeves up!). Part of the perfect fit I think was due to the immaculate construction of this dress and how true it was to the size guide. Check out that beautiful v-shaped dart at the front!

This dress totally won me over and I hope I get a lot more wear out of it... although I might be looking at next summer now!
