Outfit: golden

Autumn outfits are most definitely here! It's not too cold yet though (especially on the days the sun comes out), so I'm actually, for what feels like the first time in all history, doing the whole 'transitional' clothes thing. Which basically means as far as this outfit goes that I'm wearing my winter clothes, just without tights :D

So there's a few new things to show you in this post. First up, this cute skirt. SheIn sent this to me for review and I wasn't sure I was going to like it. I knew nothing about the brand and the prices seemed too good to be true. Ultimately, I thought worst case scenario I could send it back, so what's the harm... I followed the guide on the site to choose my size and a couple of weeks later it turned up (presumably from China). My first pleasant surprise was that it was exactly the size the guide had indicated - all measurements were spot on. This meant it was exactly the size I wanted it to be for both waist and length - it's partly why I chose this skirt in fact and you can see from the photos it looks like it was custom made for me as a result. The second pleasant surprise was that the quality was actually pretty good and it looked nicer than the picture. I mean, it's not a luxury item, but I've got a lot worse from British companies charging a lot more. It has a neat straight hem, which is more than I can say for some of my clothes. Furthermore, the pleats really work to make this skirt hang nicely without any need for a petticoat etc - I don't have one on here. So all in all, I'm really quite pleased with it and think I'll get a lot of wear out of it because the different colours in the checks will lend themselves to different combinations.

The golden tones in the skirt led me to crack out my new beret and bargain Vivienne Westwood shoes I snagged off eBay for just such an outfit occasion. I don't wear gold all that often, but when I do I remember that it actually works quite well with my colouring. Something about the yellow in my skin and slight redness of my hair I guess. Talking of hair, I'm starting to really nail my waving tong now - this day I managed to get all the waves to go in the same direction on both sides. Or it was a total fluke and next time I use it I'll be back to a mess - probably the more likely scenario if I'm honest as I don't know what I did differently...

Oh and yes, you did just see this bag. What's so great about it is take the charms off and it's a fab neutral day bag - in fact it's the one I'm currently using for work :)

  1. Good morning! What a charming little outfit this one is, it's Autumn perfect. It is so nice to be able to wear skirts like that without tights. It sounds like you had a good experience with the company, yay for a good fit and neat hems!! I had a pair of those shoes but they never fit me properly as they don't come in half sizes. I'm all about the gold these days, I've realised silver doesn't actually suit me as much. Have a lovely Sunday! Xx

    1. I think my days of no tights are numbered... Yeah I'm a half size too and I can just about get away with sizing down because my feet are so narrow and they come up kinda large, but I'd probably ideally be a half size up. Ah well, beauty is pain right?! xx

  5. Love this preppy autumn look SO MUCH! You look like you should be pouring over leather bound volumes in a dark but romantic oak paneled library somewhere. I had not heard of this company before but your skirt does look great, the right amount of puff indeed! The VW shoes are the perfect addition to this outfit - the gold reflective ball is so fun :D

  7. I'm so excited to bring out the plaid and fall appropriate tones too! Although, I don't think we are getting much of a transitional season this year- we woke up to snow this morning! It's the earliest anyone ever remembers for 50 years :(
I love your outfit here- the colours are so pretty. That's a great idea to take the charms off for a more neutral bag too!

  9. Gold doesn't just work on you, it's downright, jaw droppingly sensational. It seems to illuminate your beautiful skin and pairs so sublimely with the other hues you've teamed it with here. All of which, as you might imagine, I'm wild for. This is early autumn dressing at its finest and most inspiring.

    1. Aw, thank you Jessica :) I think I have a lot of yellow in my skin so I guess it makes sense gold works so well!

  13. The outfit is really cute! Perfect for early fall, with the beige, gold, and black. I think you've put together something really fun and wearable. I'd put this on in a heartbeat.
Buuuuuut... Shein/Chicwish/etc are so, so hit or miss in terms of the quality and the sizing. Even if you're meticulous about the measurements sometimes the garments are still too small. It worked out for you, and maybe it's something that they're getting better about in general, but I still don't think I could order from one of those sites again.

    1. Oh definitely, I got pretty lucky with this one. I've bought from Chicwish before... not so lucky then! Either time I tried, in fact. The first time the skirt never came and a month later I had to ask them where it was!! So I have pretty mixed feelings now...

  16. Great skirt and I'm glad it worked out! I'm not sure I've ordered from Shein yet, but I've ordered from similar companies (I think some may even be owned by the same people...) and have had good experiences as well. Those shoes...omfg!!! And what a great fall outfit! XO
