Outfit: la ville de l'amour

I'm not going to beat around the bush with this one; this is my favourite set of outfit photos that I've taken so far this year. It had something pretty key going for it; location. You might gather from the buildings in the background that this is my second and final set of photos from our short trip to Paris last month (the first in front of the Eiffel Tower are here).

But aside from that and the fact we absolutely nailed the lighting, there was something else that tipped these photos into the realms 'one of the best' and that was the outfit itself. After being really good most summer and not making impulse buys, I had a bit of a wobble leading up to the holiday thinking I had nothing to wear. Not true, of course, I have plenty, but what I meant was 'nothing new'. Also a lie, but the new stuff I had wasn't really right for a city break. A browse through ASOS caused me to throw this dress into my basket and to be honest my hopes weren't high for it. Cheap jersey dresses tend to cling in all the wrong places and get stretched and go baggy in others. Added bonus for white ones - they may even be see-through. And yes, this dress isn't the world's most amazing quality, but somehow it did hug my curves just right...

And the result was it made me feel amazing. Well, when I wasn't fighting with the folded bardot part at every given opportunity (I think I'd quite like to stitch it into place at the side seams), at least. I expected that for something this cheap, but I didn't expect it was really going to be any good at all and as you can see, it really is flattering. It's somehow even making my stomach look sort-of flat (it is not). And you know, stripes, in Paris, gotta be done. It would have been easy to throw in another colour with a monochrome dress, but I really wanted it to be the star of the show, so I kept everything else light and neutral.

An adorable kissing swan necklace from Erstwilder was the perfect finishing touch for a chic outfit in one of the most romantic cities in the world. This outfit and its component parts will now always remind me of sauntering along Parisian streets with B in the evening summer sunshine while we were engaged, with the wedding and our marriage still to look forward to. Isn't it great when clothes help enhance happy memories like that?

  1. Ummm... Firstly, you look AMAZING! I can totally tell you're feeling yourself and yes, these pictures ROCK!

Secondly, omg those off the shoulder bardot styles that won't stay down! I have a few tops like this - I plan to stitch them as well! I need to look for off the shoulder styles that DON'T fold over - they just unfold all the time!

Thirdly, nope, no thirdly other than to say again that you look so awesome in these pics and this dress! You go girl!

    1. Thank you :D

And seriously why don't they STITCH THEM FOR US?! It would be life-changing, life-changing I tell you!! Because apparently I'm too lazy to ever get round to doing this on any of my tops ever.

  2. Looking a million Francs in that chic and sexy little number! You were right to keep it minimal and it works oh so well. Studio perfect lighting too, if only we could have that all the time eh?! What beautiful photos to remember a special trip xx

    1. The first time I put it on I started adding in all the colours, but I just wasn't feeling it. It was only when I stripped them all out and put this necklace on I realised I could give the obsessive colour-matching a rest and it would look even better :D xx

  4. Wow! These photos did turn out! The dress is perfect on you. Along with the red lips and those cool shades the whole outfit is impeccable. I'm sure you were stopping traffic everywhere you went.

    1. Not as much as I wanted to. I.e. not at all. But then I don't want to cause accidents right? (Undecided)

  7. What a lovely outfit, I love stripes and that dress truly does hug your curves in all the right ways. I would totally wear that dress, but I'd need a good old waist cincher, spanx and probably even a slip to pull it off, I'm too squishy around the mid section otherwise :D

The bag and the shoes work perfectly with your dress and that Erstwilder necklace is very cute and romantic. I love how clothes/outfits bring back happy memories :)

    1. To be honest I'm pretty squishy round the mid section myself, but where I thought it was going to be a problem it somehow wasn't in this dress. I was both surprised and seriously pleased :)

    1. I don't find them mega comfortable for long periods of wear, but I think that happens to me with every pair of glasses I ever wear to be honest! I think my ears must be lower than my nose and taking all the weight or something!!

  17. Ah, this is so gorgeous! And I'm also quite glad to know I'm not the only one who has a problem with those folded necklines! I have a top that's basically this dress, but shorter, and all of my photos of it end up being unusable because the neckline just won't stay in place (and, of course, my photographer never notices ;))

  18. Oooh, you wear stripes sooo well! This dress is perfect for you and I love that you paired it with the swan necklace because that is just a absolutely dreamy match. ❤

  20. You look so sharp! And you can definitely see on your face that you're feeling it, which always sells a look. I think I gasped aloud at that first photo where you've got your sunglasses on, because it. Is. Amazing.
You're so right about the dress (va va voom!) and the necklace is the perfect touch to make it feel just right for you. I see why this is one of your faves.
