Outfit: winter princess

Ok, if you use the word 'princess' to describe your outfit you're setting yourself up to have to deliver something extra special. And actually, all I've really done here is borrow an idea from Nora... some would say 'copied', but we're all friends here right ;)

Mind you, I've never been shy about admitting that I take some of my biggest inspiration from other blogs (I wrote a whole post about my favourites, after all). And yes, that does mean pinching bits and pieces I like from them. In this case, I fell in love with this whole outfit of Nora's but specifically 'borrowed' the furry hat worn with a pretty feminine look. I never saw myself in a hat like this until I saw Nora's styling and then I was in the shop a few days later picking up my own. I had just the skirt to wear with it too in the shape of this full, flocked Voodoo Vixen beauty. This skirt is big - particularly with an underskirt as I'm wearing here - and I love it. I'm wearing my usual S in Voodoo Vixen here, and I'd say it's pretty true to their size guide.

A fair few of you commented on the flocked peacock design on my Christmas dress and I was thinking to myself how lucky it was it went down so well, as I had something else with the exact same pattern on to show off soon too. Variety is the spice of life, but if you find something you really like why not get all the pieces... Well, that's certainly how I seem to approach fashion sometimes! But when it's this pretty, who can complain (please don't get bored and leave me!!)?

  1. Such a lovely look! I love the boots with the full skirt. I've been wanting to do that for years but I can never find the perfect boots!

    1. Funny you should say that - it took me about 3 years to find this pair!! They're not perfect though, as a bit baggy, but I pad them out with thick socks ;) works if your boots are fabric only, I imagine!

  2. That skirt is crazily beautiful with its flocked design and super fullness - you look gorgeous! I'm also loving the little brooch too, I keep saying this, but I really need to get hold of more brooches then wear them!

    1. I was surprised by how full it was actually - and yes I've given it some help, but most of my skirts do not look like this with my underskirt! It's a really lovely piece. The brooch is so cute and dainty - it's nice to have some smaller ones among the more attention-grabbing ones I seem to be collecting!

  3. Bored?! Never! I won't be satisfied until I've seen everything in your wardrobe. That skirt is particularly lovely, it's very oomphy but paired with the boots and the little jumper (is that the Collectif lurex one??) it doesn't look OTT at all, it's really wearable. We all get inspired by others, no-one pulls things out of the ether! In fact, I have a hankering to wear a mahoosive skirt sometime soon...

You're on a roll with VV aren't you? Hope you're having a good week xx

P.S. Still waiting for Collectif order no.2, and TS have 'lost' the dress I returned to them...!!!

    1. At this point you nearly have seen all of it I think ;) it is the lurex jumper yes - one of my favourite buys this winter so far; goes with everything.

Hope to see you in a giant skirt soon!

My Collectif order turned up yesterday and everything was spot on, so hooray for that! Shame on TS, that's not on!! xxx

    1. Glamorous yet everyday is basically what I aim for every day of my life, so glad to hear I'm nailing it! Don't worry, my coat was just out of shot! And these photos were taken a few weeks ago before it turned this cold!!

  6. This is so, so powerfully pretty. There is the most fabulously glam Dr. Zhivargo-y vibe at work in this elegant cold weather ensemble.

Consider me smitten, sweet CiCi, and very apt to keep the inspiration train chugging along with my own iteration one of these days. :)

    Tons of hugs,
    ♥ Jessica

*PS* The brooch looks so awesome on you. Thank you very much for the thoughtful link to my Etsy shop. I truly appreciate it.

  7. Oh no, why did I look? Here I am, desperately trying not to spend money, and now you've made me want to buy this beautiful skirt, WHY?! I seem to recall coming to the conclusion that Voodoo Vixen sizing wouldn't work on me, but I think I'm going to have to go and check anyway: curses! ;)

    1. Well the amount of times you've made me want to buy things, Amber - payback! ;) I think you're right in the sizing - I take a 26" waist in most brands and the VV Small is usually on the slightly roomy side on me, but actually with this skirt it wasn't a big problem. I've definitely got bigger smalls from them...

  8. Oh my, such a pretty a pretty outfit! I love the skirt, it looks so much fuller than on product pictures. I also love that Collectif top, which didn't give me any "wow"-feelings when I saw it on their website, but seeing it on you, I feel like I need to have it. Maybe I really need to order more clothes from Collectif's sale while it lasts!

    1. Do note I've got the PUG canvas underskirt puffing it out a bit, but actually as I've said above this skirt looks much fuller than most things I put it under! Glad to be convincing everyone to the amazingness of the Collectif lurex top, which is a personal favourite of mine ;) snap it up!

  10. Hey, what's the point of reading a blog if you don't cop style tips from it once in a while? Beautiful outfit, and I think you've made the full skirt and fur hat your own. That skirt is absolutely divine.

  12. What a gorgeous outfit! I saw Noras post too, and it was truly inspiring. And now after I see yours with the fur hat I'm inspired to get one of my own! (I sense a chain forming...) I agree, if you love a print or collection - get all the pieces! It's certainly not boring! Also your dog pin is amazing!

    1. I would absolutely love to start a chain, that would be amazing! Please do hop aboard the furry hat train...

  14. So wait...the hat is in fact a headband? Wonderful!

    Love the whole outfit.

I've been delighted with my furry hat, especially now that it is FREEZING outside.

    1. Yep, there's a hole at the top of my head! I found that the furry hats were all so huge looking on my head, but the headbands were a great compromise as I could position them where I want. And still warm despite the hole!

  15. I don't blame you for getting two pieces in this beautiful flocked feather print as it is so totally gorgeous. The whole outfit is wonderfully glamorous and chic, and the nice classical column and bit of moss in the background are giving me even more 50's magazine fashion spread vibes!

  17. Hehe Jessica beat me to it - the first thing I thought was Dr. Zhivargo too because of the hat! I love it! I actually had a hat just like this when I lived in Russia, only unfortunately it was made of rabbit fur...:(
I love all of the subtle little details in this outfit, the peacock print looks so beautiful and of course, I love that little dog :D Speaking of, are there any plans to involve any of the dogs from borrow my doggy in an outfit post one day?

    1. Hmm, I have been thinking about going into Borrow My Doggy more; it's very hard to get this particular dog to stay still for more than 5 seconds, but we've been gradually building up some snaps from various walks, so I may just share them one day :) x
