Outfit: Happy New Year!

Happy New Year everyone! The first post of 2016, which was written just before I went out on New Year's Eve (hence the stunning location two steps away from my house, with bonus drainpipe)... And had my first drink in a year, so I'm hoping I haven't died by this point. That's right folks, I kept one resolution (er, let's stick to the one I did do) - I didn't drink for a whole year. And then I eased myself back in by lifting the ban on NYE... This probably won't have been my most sensible move.

Anyway, I certainly didn't have any of the illness-related issues that drinking causes me all year, unsurprisingly, but I don't think I want to be dry for the whole of 2016. I've got one of my best friend's weddings coming up in a few months, after all :D I digress, as this isn't a resolution post, it's an outfit post, so let's get to it...

This is what I wore for the biggest party night of the year - as I went to a Gatsby themed extravaganza, complete with 5-course meal, tap dancing, electro-swing and a pop-up casino! Me being me, I wasn't going to miss a chance to go full-flapper...

What d'ya think? I have to say, wearing this wig makes me miss my old bob a bit. Back in my teens/early 20s, my hair was short and usually dyed red - I think one day I may go back to the chop!

I will be back soon with some more 'usual' outfit posts - and have lots in the works that I'm excited to share. 2016, I'm comin' for ya!

  2. I'm so glad you were the first to comment, as I was particularly hoping you'd like it Harlow! I would 100% have hair this short if I could still put it up - why can't I have both?!

Frock and Frill has some amazing dresses - their sales are well worth keeping an eye on. My dress was actually secondhand from eBay, I got it for a real bargain :D Happy New Year to you lovely! x

  3. Happy New Year!!! I do hope you're not suffering with a hangover today after so long tee-total. What a fabulous sounding party that was, I'm guessing it was in London? We don't get things like that around here! You are utterly hitting the spot in this outfit, you look gorgeous as a flapper! I've been going through a bit of a 1920s phase recently after watching Miss Fisher box sets, and have been toying with getting my hair bobbed. Now you've give me another option - try out a wig! Less drastic, less maintenance. I also desperately need a proper flapper dress in my wardrobe so will look out in the sales now for one. I had a pseudo-dress that was just a high street one but I spilled champagne on it at my birthday party and it's stained badly, so needs replacing.

Our heads aren't too bad today considering the number of cocktails we drank, but we did start the evening with a rather large meal. Bit tired though so today will be a slow one, I'm treating it as a Sunday and will do a big roast later, but I think we need some fresh air first if it stays dry.

    Happy blogging in 2016!!

    1. :D yay thank you! The website mine is from is really quite reasonable and they're fairly good quality, so I'd recommend them as a budget wig option. Right after NYE has to be the best time to get a flapper dress - keep an eye on the Jan sales!

I'm not suffering this morning - I only had two glasses of wine around a LOT of food, but last night I got my usual nausea and headache. I actually think it might be wine that triggers some kind of reaction, so I'm going to look into that... So sad! I've just eaten 2.5 bacon rolls but also feel super tired. Slow one for us today too! xxx

    1. Ha that is not true - I just know what to avoid ;) I probably should be saving money, but hadn't done anything on New Year's Eve for probably about the last five years, so it was overdue! Good luck with the move x

  6. Holy cow! You look AMAZING! I bet your man was quite excited about the transformation as well. Everything about this look is perfect. Your make-up, hair, DRESS, accessories! Seriously this is one of my all time favourites of yours.

Sounds like the kind of party I would have liked.

We went to a 1940's murder mystery and dance party and also got dressed up wearing our vintage clothes. It was loads of fun.

  7. Happy New Year Cici!! I was so excited to see this post (after I saw the preview of your hair on Instagram yesterday!) You look SO GREAT. The flapper style is such a great look on you! I totally get what you mean with the hair...why can't we have both!? I have never had long hair in my life, and really want to try it, but when it gets to the awkward stage I always chop it off because I know short is safe with me. You suit both so well though!

    1. Happy New Year to you too :) I really wish I could have a bob for wearing my hair down and long hair for putting it up. I would really miss being able to put it up... Maybe there's a compromise but I haven't worked it out yet...

  9. What an incredibly glamorous, beautiful ensemble. You've styled this look impeccably and I'm struck by just how amazing that dark hued bob is on you. I don't think it would be possible to start the new year off on a more fashionable vintage note.

Huge hugs & the very happiest of wishes for 2016!

    1. I hoped I was somewhat authentic with this outfit, although I know there's more than a few modernisations here. But I did my best with the resources I had because I was quite determined!

Hope we both have a fabulous 2016! x

  17. Hope you're not too hung over!!! And I hope you had a lovely start of 2016! You look FABULOUS and oh-so chic. I actually don't drink a ton bc I had all of these health problems from 2011-2014 that messed up my tolerance to alcohol. I have mixed feelings on this. Hope you can fall back into it as you please ;) Happy 2016!!

    1. No hangover, but the booze did make me poorly again. I only had two glasses, as well... So I know it definitely still makes me sick! Just got to figure out if it's all alcohol, or just certain things... x

  19. Ugh. Dying. This flapper look is so utterly kick ass! The black bob really suits you, as does that amazing dress. And seriously, a while year without booze? Not to sound like too much of an alcoholic, but I have a hard time going a month. Anyway, happy new year!
