Outfit: the dress I couldn't forget (+ giveaway reminder)

So, remember how I painstakingly put two outfit choices for a wedding this month together, and got you all to tell me which was your favourite? It was all going so well, until this dress...

ASOS is hardly the retailer of choice if you want to pick up a floor-length 30s style dress - and yet, that's exactly where I found one. And not only did I find one, I found it in the petite range, meaning it actually had a chance of fitting without some serious alterations! I first spotted the dress a couple of months ago and hadn't been able to stop thinking about it since. I planned both of my other wedding outfit choices and tried to forget it. I couldn't stop thinking about this being my only chance to get a dress like this that would fit, though. And then, of course, it started to sell out, as every other short woman out there was clearly thinking the same thing.

The final straw for me, though, was the beautiful sparkly green necklace that Jessica sent me as part of the wonderful gift package to feature for our giveaway post. This dress and that necklace - although from different eras - would be a match made in heaven. I knew it, the necklace knew it, the dress certainly knew it and finally forced its way into my shopping basket the week of the wedding. I like to think that if nothing else, the outfit I nearly wore was the predecessor to this one - as it also featured green, gold and black... but that is probably just me trying to justify spending a silly amount of money on a dress I didn't actually need ;)

Oh well, there's a reason I started fashion blogging, and it wasn't because I made sensible clothing purchases...

In fact, even though petite, I really could have done with it being about an inch or two shorter (the irony!), but didn't have time to fix it before the wedding... so yes, I did spend the entire night holding it up. And despite this, yes, people still managed to spill things on it, which you can see a little of in one of these photos. I had meant to take these shots pre-potential alcohol spillage, but someone had a bad hair day and spent nearly an hour fixing it, meaning we ran out of time for photos before we left. No, it actually wasn't me, it was B!

Anyway, back to the necklace and the giveaway Jessica and I are hosting here! You've got 15 hours to enter if you haven't already. I will pick and notify the winner by email tomorrow, so a final good luck from me!

Oh and a very Happy Thanksgiving to my American readers :)

  1. Now that is a stunner of a dress! I can see why you ditched the others. Just peeked on Asos and it comes in red too. Sigh. Why are there so many beautiful dresses and not enough occasions to wear them?! I already have three 1930's inspired evening gowns so can't really justify another...though I don't have one in bright red or dark green.

How perfect is that necklace with it? Gorgeous pairing. Nice to see that covetable Vendula bag again too!

I'm off to do a spot of Christmas shopping this afternoon, and to buy myself a pair of sensible and boring black pumps with a small heel for rainy days. Place your bets as to whether I actually return home with suede, bright colours, and impractical heels!

    Xx

    1. Weirdly I did realise I already have a floor-length 30s dress - I inherited it from my housemate who wore it to a prom... when she was 13! It's purple velvet though, bit more of a ball-gown than this one is!

Impractical heels and pretty things are what Christmas shopping is all about ;) xxx

  2. Wow! Such a stunning dress! I love the color, cut, and length on you! I really love the details on the bottom of the skirt. So dreamy! I love that necklace with it too! I recognized it right away! So perfect! It's such a coincidence too... just last weekend I wore an army green dress with a cream colored faux fur. The colors were slightly different, and mine were much more casual than your elegant attire but still... how funny! That's the second time we've done similar themes by coincidence! I'll probably have to post posted later this week or next :) Perfect choice for the wedding! <3

    1. Yes I love the details at the bottom too! Apart from the drops of alcohol, heh. All I can say is, great minds think alike ;) I would have loved cream faux fur, but sadly don't own any!

    2. Nowhere near as elegant as your lovely outfit but here is my green and faux fur ensemble which I coincidentally wore the weekend before you posted this :D ;)

  3. Stunning dress, I am all about that shade of green at this time of year. Very retro glamour, you look like you just walked right out of a hollywood film!

    1. I've gotten really into this kind of forest green this year - but I really don't own very much so I'm trying to correct that. Green and gold - my favourites at the moment :)

  4. Wow! You look amazing here. That colour is gorgeous and all your accessories are perfection.

I like that you left it long...it is so old time glamour, but I could see problems with people stepping on it all night long.

    1. People definitely stepped on it, until I took to just holding it all night... Worth it.

    1. I am a bad, bad dress-buyer. Actually, that's not true, I'm brilliant at it - but a bad, bad money-saver ;) x

  11. Wow. Seriously. Wow. You look so amazing! This dress is stunning, and you look really stunning in it. I love the red lips and the fur stole, it really completes the look.
You know, I actually loooooooove ASOS for 20s and 30s inspired styles. You really have to hunt, but both of my "20s" dresses are from there, and both ended up being less than $40 after all the discounts.

    1. Aw thank you Jessica :) I can't think of a time when red lips and a fur stole wouldn't complete a look in all honesty ;) You're quite right - they've had some great stuff lately. And they are all over flapper designs!

  12. Show stoppingly stunning outfit! Many, many "wows" coming your way. You look like a mid-century movie star, sweet CiCi, and I am beyond honoured to see that beautiful 1950s enamel and rhinestone necklace from my shop included as part of this magnificent ensemble (thank you for including it). Really, you are a complete vision here!!!

    Big hugs,
    ♥ Jessica

  13. Oh you 30s screen goddess you! This outfit is jaw dropping gorgeous! I recently bought a couple of floor length 30s dresses myself (they seemed like a good idea at the time) and now I must wait for the opportunity to wear them :P

  16. Gah, I swear to God I commented on this last week, but it looks like the internet must have eaten it! Anyway, I'm pretty sure the comment contained words like, "WOW" and "OMG" and "WHYCANINOTWEARDRESSESLIKETHIS?" Seriously stunning dress - and I loved the other two, but this was definitely the right choice!

  18. This dress is gorgeous! What a great color and hooray for a petite maxi dress. I still need petite items taken up a lot of the time too so I understand. I think it looks fine at this length despite people spilling on it and it getting in the way. This whole look is fantastic for a wedding!
