Outfit: burgundy heartbreaker

I think it's about time for an autumnal outfit, don't you? Particularly as there's probably more leaves on the ground than on the trees over here right now, so I think that means Winter is Coming (and I don't really like Game of Thrones, but I echo the characters' sentiments as far as that's concerned). I generally find it a pain in the neck to dress for autumn, though, as our weather is basically just winter, but with more foliage on the ground... But this year it's been... ok!

We've actually had some gorgeous, crisp sunny days - in fact we've had whole weeks that were better summer weather than summer itself could offer. Of course, we've had the usual weeks of wind and rain too (like today), but for once I've actually managed to wear some 'transitional' outfits. I don't think I've ever used that word on this blog before because I don't recall this country ever transitioning rather than leaping headfirst into winter since I've been writing here! I've really enjoyed stopping to cook up a few autumn looks, from which comes this one.

This is a simple enough outfit but I haven't put burgundy and mustard together like this before and I have to say I quite like it. This dress, like the Tara Starlet blouse I featured before, is one of my oldest 'vintage repro' buys. It followed quite closely on the heels of said blouse many years ago and also, like the blouse, I tend to forget I have it. Then I put it on and remember how flattering it is and how much I love it as it's so easy to pair with other things. I bought this when Heart of Haute were still Heartbreaker, but amazingly they still sell the style...

Also, I know you've seen this brooch very recently, but I'm amazed by how many of my outfits it seems to go with. I wasn't expecting it to pair with any really, as it's such a mix of colours, which is the polar opposite of what happened with my Goldie brooch... It's made me think maybe I should get more 'random' accessories just because I like them and see what happens.

And yep, I did manage to take these pictures a) before the leaves really started turning and b) in front of a tonne of what I suspect are evergreens. Autumn, what autumn?!

  1. Beautifully Autumnal, in the nice bit of the season way - today seems to be gale force winds and driving rain?! In fact, it's rained for about two weeks solid now where we live. So I appreciate these lovely photos because 'Autumn walks' like this we probably won't be able to go on until next year now. Sigh.

I love burgundy, and I have had my eye on that Superspy dress for quite some time - now that I've seen it on you I think it wouldn't be long enough for me, but it's perfect on you! Such a cute look with the boots and beret. I'll update you on my shopping soon, but basically it's really not gone to plan and I have ended up re-selling loads or returning it, so I don't have much to show for my spree!!

    xx

    1. Yes we're certainly not in the nice bit of the season right now! I think if I went outside today I'd be blown away!! It was nice while it lasted, though...

You might be right about the length - it's great for me but would be more like a mini on you probably! Mind you, I've no doubt shrunk this one a little bit over the years. Such a shame your spree hasn't gone so well - sad times! After being good for a while I'm now back to my bad old ways - I'm about to bid on a frankly ridiculous dress on eBay... xx

  2. I love everything about this outfit - the style, colour etc.

Sadly no Sunday walks for me today - high winds and rain = a film on TV in the comfort of my lounge!

    1. That is precisely all I'm doing today for the very same reasons. I feel like the days of wearing autumnal outfits like this one may be behind me for this year...

    1. I've been really lazy with it recently and haven't been wearing it much at all because I can't be bothered to find the charger... but my phone is tracking me so it's all good ;) In this case, it did go rather well! x

  7. This dress really looks awesome on you and it's one of my favorite colors to wear in the fall. I'm loving the polka dot tights paired with it too. You can never go wrong with polka dot tights in my book!

    1. I do like burgundy, but I find I never have a lipstick that goes quite right with it! Always too bright, or a different shade of red... I'll nail it one day!

    1. Shucks, Suzanne! It's a very subtle kind of pin-up, but I think you're right that this kind of dress suits curves oh so well.

  10. Love the little pop of polka dots!! I, too, have been finding it easier than normal to dress for fall. Perhaps we've had a more mild fall than usual. I don't recall still wearing bare legs and little jackets this far into November, but like you, New England has had some higher temps than normal for fall. I'll take it! Soon enough, we'll have plenty of snowy days =)

    1. I basically jinxed the weather here as it's been horrible since this post! We had 60mph winds last night for hours on end... Oh well, winter was never going to stay away forever.

  11. This is such a cool outfit. The colour palette is a dream, the mix of materials and accessories is fab (that Erstwilder brooch!!!), and the whole ensemble is head-turningly pretty. Awesome styling and capturing of a crisp, beautiful fall day.

    Big hugs,

  13. Omg, I've recently become obsessed with brooches! I especially love Erstwilder and the lipstick one is next on my list! I hear you, fall here is more like summer (opposite of what you said...fair) but then it will snow too. Planning an outfit ahead is totally impossible. I love the burgundy and mustard together...perfect combo! XO

  14. I never would have thought to put burgundy, black, and mustard together, but this really works on you! The shape of the dress is fantastic, and really shows off your hourglass figure, and those polka dot tights are a great touch. Looks like a great way to transition to fall.
I can't wait to see the giveaway!

    1. I didn't either until I was trying to think up ways to wear this dress that weren't just 'and black'. Proves my theory that mustard really does seem to go with practically everything! I can't wait to share the giveaway... one more day...

  15. Wow, I also can't believe how well your lipstick brooch matches with everything, but it really is the perfect touch on this cozy looking fall outfit! I hope it's as comfortable as it looks, because it's a great transitional ensemble. On that note ~ yays for a nice autumn for you! I'm so glad you are experiencing better weather after your miserable not-summer. :) ❤

    1. It is a really comfortable dress to wear yes! It's like wearing a big t-shirt really as it's just jersey. I jinxed the weather as it's rubbish again now, but it was nice while it lasted :) x
