Outfit: strawberry style (so long, summer)

I think I'm ready to admit that we've waved goodbye to summer here in the UK. Not that we really got one this year - I think our total number of days of 25+ degrees wouldn't total more than a weeks' worth of warmth. But it's fine, I'm over it. No, really. Once we get into September I can accept we should have autumn weather and I don't feel quite as bitter about it. However, unlike everyone on the internet apart from me (or that's what it feels like!), I don't love autumn. But you have to understand, I've just had three months of autumn weather, even if it was calling itself 'summer'. Autumn just means 'winter' in this country. And no one really loves winter (loving Christmas is not the same thing).

Anyway, we did have a rare sunshiny day in August and my strawberry bag practically leaped into my hands, so desperate was it to see the outside world again. Who am I to deny a bag of such adorableness? All there was to be done was find an outfit that it was destined to be paired with. You know what that means - matching. Happily, I found a shirt that almost looks like it's strawberry patterned. I will admit I have been buying a disgusting amount of clothes recently (I may actually be a shopping addict at this point), but this was a no-brainer because: Collectif sale. It was £5.

I haven't yet introduced you to my new denim dress, either. I love this dress. Denim is just the best fabric ever for being casual no matter what shape it's in - in this case a 50s sundress. I can't believe this was a high street buy, the shape is so authentic - I didn't get a photo of it, but it has the best square neck (there's a link to the dress below if you want to see it). This dress is easy to throw on for any occasion - and it looks good with or without a petticoat (I've got the PUG canvas underskirt on here - a review of which is coming). I absolutely love it and you bet you'll see it again dressed up for colder weather. It'll look great with long sleeves underneath.

But in the meantime, thanks to someone down my road kindly painting the side of their house in a perfect photo-backdrop shade (thanks, neighbours!), there's picture evidence of me and my strawberry bag enjoying the warm sun for what's probably the last time this year...

I can't be the only one sad to see the seasons change, right? It is literally like someone flipped the 'cold' switch over here on September 1st.

  1. Oh my god, I can't get over how stinkin' cute this entire outfit is! I love that red button down! So perfect. What is it with denim that goes so well with strawberries? I have a denim vintage skirt that has strawberries embroidered on it and it just pops so well!

  3. Such adorableness!! I love a denim dress, I have one but feel the need for another, as it's quite old now and very casual in that it's a bit worn around the edges. Your hair is gorgeous in this post, a little different to what you normally do. And that strawberry bag... if we lived closer I'd try to steal it!! (watch out if I come and visit you...)

I'm having a sneaky blog read when I'm supposed to be printing out table plans!! After that I might have a gin and relax. I did have grand plans of a complete pre-wedding detox but who am I kidding, sometimes it's been quite stressful and a glass of wine has been the light at the end of my tunnel!! Right. Back to table plans. Have a lovely few Autumnal weeks and I'll message you when I'm back xxx

    1. I was thinking of you and your denim dress when I wrote this post :) I have another one but I have to admit it is a size too small for me and looks dreadful on. It needs to go to the local charity shop...

I can't believe your wedding is tomorrow - I feel like it should still be months away! I will miss you in the blogosphere, for sure xxx

    1. I think in this country you have to accept it's always autumn, apart from when it's winter. :) xx

    1. Definitely - but actually one that's quite easy to put with stuff; well, if you like red accents as much as this girl does, at least ;)

  7. I'm actually a bit jealous that your summer is making the slide into fall. It's 90 degrees here right now, and seems like it's going to stay that way for a while. I'm sick of being drenched in sweat, I'm so ready for some fall!
I'm glad you were able to get a little bit more use out of your strawberry purse, though. I think you've picked the perfect outfit to wear with it, actually. I definitely see the strawberry inspiration in the shirt, the white dots remind me of seeds or something. Love the shape of the dress as well, it's very flattering on you.

    1. I don't think it's so much of a slide as an abrupt crash on September 1st! It really is just autumn here now. I would swap for your heat - I don't mind sweating a bit if I get to be warm for once. As it is, I'm sitting in my house right now refusing to put the heating on, so instead wearing a t-shirt, cardigan AND fleece jacket. How is this right?! I had a line about the white dots looking like seeds that I thought was too twee and deleted - we're definitely on the same page there :)

  9. I want 2015 to be over, so the seasons can change as quickly as they like! That said, I don't enjoy the darkness of autumn and winter, I wish we'd had a bit more sun.

    1. The darkness is the WORST. I could almost accept the cold if it was light. Almost.

  10. I would never have thought of styling a denim dress like you have - but the whole ensemble works so exquisitely! I actually look forward to the approach of autumn. It's my favourite time - I love the sense of change (spring of course is the same) but also I think it's my favourite season for clothes!

  11. Red, white and blue are my favourite colour comb, they marry exceptionally well. And great idea to tie the shirt over the dress, creates a beautiful silhouette. This has been a pretty awful summer in the UK, just as it begun, it ended. I'm trying to appreciate the crisp feeling of Autumn and the gorgeous colours of the leaves, but let's be realistic, it is cold, damp, you feel chilled to the bone from the moisture in the air and the leaves are slippery. Baa Humbug to Autumn!

    1. And they make a great flag too ;) Did the summer begin?! I blinked and missed it... Unless it was those two hours I managed to get photos in the sun in my previous outfit post!!

    1. I'm so pleased that everyone is getting the polka dot top echo :D If you can get your hands on this Oasis dress, which is still in stock at the moment, I do recommend it! Such a classic shape, not like anything else I've ever seen on the highstreet. xx
