Outfit: wintry pops of red

So, there’s no escaping that it’s full-on winter now. During the week I forget what daylight looks like, during the weekends I freeze taking blog photos… At some point it will snow and it’ll take 5 hours to get to work. Generally speaking, it’s my least favourite season (can you tell?!). But every cold, sleet-filled cloud has a silver lining… And that lining is berets. Oh, how I love their jaunty angles, Parisian chic and ability to make it look like I tried (today’s hair took about a minute – a minute!).
And this one being a red beret it is obviously extra brilliant as who doesn’t like red accessories? Especially when it allows your matching obsession to reach a new level… That’s right, I’ve matched myself to a house. And if that wasn’t enough for you, also some berries on the ground. Which I promise I didn’t put there. Smashing that accessorising resolution
I’ve always loved this house but it took me a year to realise it’d make a great backdrop – which is ridiculous as it’s about five doors down from where I live* and I see it nearly every single day. And that’s probably as close as we’ll get to seeing my place as unlike this house there’s always a car parked right in front of it. But it’s nowhere near as pretty as this one anyway so who cares? There is part of me that thinks it’s sacrilege to paint a nice old 1880s house like this, but the other part of me just can’t resist a red window frame.
Oh, and check out the boots. The Miss L Fire ones I mentioned before… That’s right, I spent a fortune on not one but two pairs of boots this winter and you know what? Je ne regrette rien.
* Talking about where I live, some of you might have received panicked comments over the weekend about the fact a For Sale sign was nailed to my house on Saturday afternoon (sorry to you in particular, Jessica!)… so, for the entire weekend I was convinced that I was about to be turfed out of my beautiful house I’ve spent so long ‘doing up’ recently – as much as you’re allowed to in rentals, anyway. Turns out it was a false alarm and the moronic company – House Simple, for those of you who are ever looking for an online ‘estate agent’ – put it up by mistake. Without our permission, might I add. They just nailed it up when we weren’t looking, even though we said we thought it could be a mistake. Please no one ever use them!!

I love how you matched your window frames to your outfit 🙂 You look so glamorous, I am in such envy over those shoes and the beret too. I would give anything for winter, 45+ degree days (Celsius) are killing me.

That sounds awful about the real estate debacle, gosh! you would think they would at least put the sign on the right house?! You do unfortunately hear about those sorts of things these days and I am glad its all sorted 🙂

    Stay well!

45+ plus does sound intense! But, I'd still swap you right now! I just hate the cold…

The weird thing is they put it up on the right house… and then ours as well by mistake. So they cost themselves two signs from their complete incompetency. Thanks for your kind comment though 🙂

Yikes! Read you plight over at Jessica's and happy to see it was all a mistake.
Love your outfit! I've got a thing for plaid right now so your skirt is making me over the moon with jealousy. I'm also taking a private moment to gush about your boots in the privacy of my own home. These is a lot of "oh my's" and "adorable" and "what I'd do for a pair of those" being uttered. 🙂

You should definitely try to catch them now – Miss L Fire are selling off their autumn/winter stock at sale prices 😉

My goodness that must have been some scare! I can only imagine how that made your heart sink! I am so glad that it was a mistake!
Winter is my least favorite season too. Here the weather gets so cold (-30 celicus) everyday that you just can't take it anymore and taking pictures is nearly impossible! I think I need these cute little fur trimmed booties you have! They are perfect winter accessory! Love your whole outfit! Wonderful winter attire! So stylish!

    • January 15, 2015 / 1:20 pm

You've got it a lot worse for temperature, yikes! I shouldn't moan about 3 degrees Celsius (but I do!). And thank you 🙂

  5. January 12, 2015 / 10:15 pm

Ah, so happy to hear your house scare was just a false alarm, that must have been SO panic-inducing! LOVE the outfit, especially the beret: I've been meaning to buy one for ages now – there's just something so chic about them!

    • January 15, 2015 / 1:21 pm

They're such a great way to up the chic level of any outfit with minimal effort – you should check out Joy; they've got a few colours now of my same beret (not the red though) in the sale for £4. Bargain!

Ew, French girl. 😛 You look adorable! I love that both you and your house have "pops of red" going on. The beret and boots are great touches, and of course your plaid skirt is the perfect thing for a winter day. You're totally killing it, as always.

    • January 15, 2015 / 1:22 pm

Well, not my house, but one can dream… It's close enough 😉 I was quite pleased with this outfit, so glad you like it!

Such a lovely wintry outfit ahhh! I am in love with those fur trimmed booties :3

    • January 15, 2015 / 1:23 pm

I'm enjoying all of your summer ones though – they're helping me to keep focused on the light at the end of the tunnel… c'mon Spring!

  8. January 13, 2015 / 9:25 am

That's awful that you had a panic, I'm glad it was a false alarm.

How are you able to be so incredibly chic and stylish in this gloom and cold?! That's such a cheery outfit with all the red and the amazing booties. I've been struggling, I admit, and have been progressively non-vintage as winter has gone on. I can't wait for some drier days so I can start putting a little oomph back in my daily clothes. I find that when it's wet and windy I can't wear mid-length skirts because the wind just whips them up, so I end up wearing shorter clothes with tights that I can swap for dry ones when I get to the office, and I've given up wearing all my nice coats and have resorted to the waterproof pink outdoorsy jacket that has been a godsend! My only consolation is lipstick, which I wear every day without fail.

      It was the worst!!

Well, slight confession, these photos were taken a few weeks ago when it wasn't raining cats and dogs every weekend, which is definitely what it's been up to recently in my neck of the woods. So that's partly how I do it 😉 I don't think we get too extreme a wind over here which means I get away with skirts generally, but the rain is a problem… The slightest moisture in the air and my hair goes mental, so I spend most days at the office with a wonky fringe and frizz. Sigh. But yes, lipstick is a saviour! xx

CICI!! You just reminded me that I have three berets stowed away for winter. I completely forgot about them. YESSSS ITS BERET TIME AGAIN.

you look lovely as always. love your tartan skirt (yay buy ALL THE TARTAN! haha). the boots are so cute as well!

    • January 15, 2015 / 1:25 pm

I LOVE beret time! So glad I've reminded you 😉 and thank you, as ever!!

  10. January 13, 2015 / 1:26 pm

This outfit is gorgeous! I have that skirt too – it's one of my favourites at the moment, I wore it just yesterday – but I've never thought to wear it with ankle boots like you have, it looks lovely! And love the beret too, very chic 🙂
That sounds awful with your house, I can only imagine how stressful that must have been. How crazy that they could just nail up a sign without checking with you first, you'd think they'd at least knock on the door or leave a note to say what they were doing!!

The skirt is amazing isn't it – the fabric, which I was quite skeptical of at first, I actually really like now as it hangs so beautiful. I want to see how you style it too!

They did knock on the door, we said we didn't think it was our house but aren't the homeowners so don't know for sure… they went away and then came back and stuck it up anyway when they thought we weren't looking!! Argh! xx

  11. January 13, 2015 / 5:19 pm

You really chose the perfect spot for this photo shoot! If I had a house that cute so close-by I'd be there taking all my photos. I think my neighbours would think I'm even stranger then! LOL

The outfit is FABULOUS! Just love it.

    • January 15, 2015 / 1:27 pm

I know, I kind of want to do all of them there now. I don't think my neighbours would be a fan… maybe I'll just reserve it for when I'm wearing red 😉 x

  12. January 14, 2015 / 12:01 am

You look like a French model casually strolling through Paris! Seriously cute outfit! And how lucky to stumble upon that backdrop, it's always such a challenge to find the perfect spot to take pictures haha. You look really beautiful:)

    • January 15, 2015 / 1:28 pm

Hurrah, that's exactly what I wanted to look like! And yes, finding good backdrops is a near constant game for me, but so satisfying when you find one this easily and this nearby! x

  13. January 14, 2015 / 10:34 pm

Ah, I wish we were sisters so we could share closets! A.k.a. me stealing your clothes, haha. This outfit is absolutely stunning and you look gorgeous! Your little shoes with the fur are adorable and that full plaid skirt is scrumptious! You definitely nailed this one – as you have a tendency to do 🙂

    • January 15, 2015 / 1:28 pm

Thank you! I was very pleased with this outfit so I'm glad everyone else seems to like it as much too 😀 you're very kind 🙂 x

  14. January 14, 2015 / 10:35 pm

Whoa, that would be alarming to see a sign like that on your house! Anyways, your skirt and sweater are fantastic!

  15. January 15, 2015 / 1:20 pm

No one rocks a beret like you, dear gal! They are definitely one of your signature pieces in my books. I love this whole look. It's something I would wear in a heartbeat, most definitely including those ah-mah-zing MLF boots (swoon!).

Don't worry in the slightest, dear gal. It's totally okay and I'm genuinely thrilled to know that all is safe and sound for you on the house front. What a super stressful thing to have to deal with. I'm touched that you confided in me about it. You can always share whatever you'd like with me, Cici. It's all good – in this case, thankfully, quite literally.

    Have a fabulous Thursday,
    ♥ Jessica

Ah, thanks – I'm very happy for a beret to me one of my signature pieces 🙂 the boots are so beautiful aren't they?! I was so pleased they released them, as I had my eye on the ones they sold a couple of years ago that were quite similar but sold out too soon.

Thanks for your kind words – I knew you'd be supportive 🙂 I'm just sorry you've been feeling bad lately as it's hard to support others when you've got that going on! x

  16. January 15, 2015 / 4:17 pm

    Beautiful!!! 🙂

  17. January 18, 2015 / 2:51 am
