Outfit: Lindy Bop love – the Ophelia dress

Ok, ok, these are yet more photos that were taken when it was a fair bit warmer. However, this was a wedding guest outfit and weddings can happen anytime, right? Therefore it is totally ok.

If you think you’ve seen this dress before you’re probably right… it’s very popular and there’s several good reasons for it (and do check it out on the fabulous Nora and Sammi in different colourways too). It’s a bargain, great quality, seems to be universally flattering and it presents a first in repro 50s swing-style dresses to my knowledge – a petite version for short-stuff like me! I couldn’t believe my eyes when I saw this on Lindy Bop’s site. Why has no one ever thought that petite ladies like me might want to wear a 50s style dress that doesn’t finish at approximately ankle height? That’s without getting to the issue of strap length, which is a personal favourite of mine to whinge about and a constant feature of my sewing to-do list. In case you’re a newer reader or have stumbled on this post, I’m 5ft2″, and go for a trouser length of 29″ (I have no idea if that sizing applies beyond UK, apologies!). Most 50s style skirts hit me at mid calf, which added to the fact I’m relatively tiny generally, just swamps me when it’s a full skirt.

Not a problem anymore, with a dress that feels like it was literally custom made for me…

I find Lindy Bop a bit hit and miss with quality – I’ve got another dress of theirs to post about in the future and it’s nowhere near as nice as this one. But that was a slightly older one in the sale, and this dress is one of their flagship styles and I do think it’s really very good value indeed. I feel like I should now buy all of their other petite styles before they change their minds and stop selling them (as so often happens)!

Oh wow, what an absolute stunner of a dress! I had no idea LindyBop did petite sizes: I've always avoided the temptation in the past, because it wasn't sure about fit/ quality, but I'm going to have to go and take a look now!

I really do think it can depend on the item, but this dress was better quality than some of my other dresses I've paid a lot more for!

I love love love your vintage style! It honestly suits you perfectly 🙂 I'd love to wear the full midi skirts but have a similar/opposite problem to you really – I'm 5'11 so feel ridiculous wearing heels for daytime and usually the waistline on dresses is wayyyyy to high for me. What looks beautifully tailored to the wait on you would probably be an unflattering empire line on me! Just checked out the Lindy Bop website and the Audrey dress is my fave, as well as this one!

I never think of waist-lines as being a problem, you're right that our issues are very different indeed!! x

Wow wow wow! This really does look like it was made for you. Gorgeous. Just gorgeous. These photos should be used to advertise this dress.

Can you tell Lindy Bop that so they'll pay me 😉 and thank you! x

I love this dress on you! This is one I've been admiring for a while! So great to see your review and pictures!!! Also, I love that hair flower!!! It's the perfect shade for this dress <3

You should get it, it will make you feel like a princess 🙂

I keep waffling on whether or not I want to buy this dress. On the one hand, it's so fancy I don't know if I'd ever wear it, and I really don't know how that bust would work on me. On the other hand, I don't actually have that many dressy dresses, and this style is soooo pretty (and soooo cheap). Decisions, decisions.
This looks gorgeous on you. Love the color, love the print, love the fit. It's so exciting when you find something that fits you really well when you're so used to things not fitting properly, isn't it? Definitely snap up some more if you can.

    • October 29, 2014 / 1:27 pm

I know what you mean, I don't see myself wearing this on your average day. It's great for occasions… but how many of those can you wear the same thing to more than once?! But if you're going to buy something like this, buy it cheap I say!

The colors of this dress!! Oh my, they are so beautiful. This really does fit you like a dream. I'm so happy I stumbled upon your blog, vintage fashions are always my favorite.

    • October 29, 2014 / 1:28 pm

Lindy Bop do some truly lovely prints 🙂 you're in the right place then, as vintage fashions are definitely also my favourite!

Yay!!! I love this dress on you! And gosh I do love this color – it was my second choice!! It's really hard isn't it – I kinda want this dress in every color!! You look super adorable and my goodness you are tiny!! Thanks for mentioning my post too ahahha

    • October 29, 2014 / 1:28 pm

This colour was one of two choices I had in the petite size, but I'm glad I went for it as it's so pretty and unlike all my other dresses. And you're welcome 🙂

This dress. Is. Absolutely. BEAUTIFUL! I am obsessed. And the way you styled it is just perfect too! And uhh I totally understand you dilemma with being short and midi skirts just don't fit right. That's why I learned how to sew so I can hem and alter clothes so they fit on me 😛

I keep trying to teach myself to hem things but I just get it wrong (the last thing I hemmed it became unintentionally asymmetrical)… I admire your skills!!

This dress is so cute, this colors makes me happy, but uh here is autumn and not nice weather for my floral dresses.

I have opposite problem then you. I m really tall and a lot of dresses are short for me.

    • November 6, 2014 / 1:42 pm

Sometimes I really wish I had that problem! It would be nice to see how the other half lives…

  10. November 1, 2014 / 10:09 pm

This dress fits you divinely! I've noticed that it doesn't sit right on everyone in the bust area, and that's put me off trying the dress myself, but this honestly looks custom made on you. x

    • November 6, 2014 / 1:43 pm

I would say if you have an especially small bust in proportion to the rest of you it may not look as 'right' – but on the flip side if you're busty this is great because the ruched material in the material can almost expand to fit anyone. Lindy Bop are definitely one to watch regardless of this one style though! x

I just came by your blog and am so happy to find a fellow 5'2 gal! It's so hard to find dresses that fit right sometimes but people like you remind me that yes, it can be done. You are so gorgeous and the dress looks amazing! Floral prints are always so fun wear, no matter what the season. Looking forward to more future posts:)

It can especially be done if there are petite ranges in the world – and excellent, inexpensive tailors! Glad to be able to share some of the useful information for small ladies out there.

Sweet dear, I can't take my eyes off of you! You look absolutely, completely sublime in your gorgeous Ophelia dress. I've been coveting scores of Lindy Bop's magnificent offerings for ages now (I don't yet own any), very much including this exact dress, so naturally my eyes lit up like Christmas lights when I saw you modelling it. Fingers crossed I can follow your lead with one of my own some day (hint, hint, Santa! :D).

You're so lovely! For the money it really is worth trying something from them… there's not really that much to lose once you see their prices! I definitely recommend this dress for the 5'2" among us 😉 x

  13. November 4, 2014 / 7:44 pm

Wow! This dress is ridiculously beautiful. The color, print, and cut are beautiful.

    • November 6, 2014 / 1:45 pm

I am literally so pleased with it I find it hard to not wear it everyday. That could be interesting at work…

  14. November 9, 2014 / 6:06 pm

Oh man a dress like this actually made in a petite size! What a dream! This dress is absolutely gorgeous. I love the colors in the print and how the flower in your hair matches so perfectly.
