Outfit: 'casual' stripe wiggle dress

It's one of those crazy weeks so far. Work has been hectic and the weekend started in much the same way as I helped my housemate move out last night. It's been 3 and a half years of a happy home with her and a part of me is so sad, but another part of me is very excited as my boyfriend, B, is moving in! In the weeks leading up to this weekend what I've basically learned is that most of my money will disappear on home stuff and I've already spent a small fortune - so it's fitting that this outfit consists of things I've mostly had for a while! (And hopefully, once a few more things are in place, I can show you what we're doing with the house.)

This outfit, while kinda dressy, is also super comfy - which is what I aim for in a lot of my weekend wear. Most of the outfit photos you see on this blog are taken after I've walked around outside for a while, so if it's on here, it normally really is what I wear for an entire day - in this case they were taken before doing some chores in the town centre. A while ago I remember reading a post where the blogger said that the outfits they feature are more dressy than they'd usually wear... I always find myself thinking about that now. I'm one of those people who overdresses for the supermarket, so I think I can honestly say I don't do that here! If you've got a blog, would you say you post up pictures that are more 'best' than 'everyday'? For the record, I don't think there's anything wrong if you do the former - our blogs are what we want them to be, after all! I think this thinking fits with recent ponderings on how my style has changed since starting this blog... it's certainly not made me more of a casual dresser, despite this post's title!

  1. Love this outfit: you just can't beat a good stripe-with-red shoes, as far as I'm concerned!

As far as photos go, I show what I've actually been wearing that day (with a very few exceptions, which would be items I've been sent by sponsors, and need to post with a certain time frame: with those, it's always how l WILL be wearing them at some point soon, though!), but they do tend to be the slightly dressier ones, purely because I work from home, so can be in workout gear off a large part of the day, and no Love this outfit: you just can't beat a good stripe-with-red shoes, as far as I'm concerned!

Congrats on the new living arrangements, by the way, and welcome to the world of Sundays i. Ikea, and spending way too much money on scented candles and cushions! one wants to see that, obviously ;)

    1. If I received stuff from sponsors I'm pretty sure I'd take much the same approach... and I also agree that I find casual outfit posts really interesting because they always feel, to me, like the hardest to get right and make exciting. And even when I do them, like this one I guess, they're still on the dressy side! Can't help myself...

I've already ticked off Ikea and I've just spent WAY too much money on cushions. I would require six... And you've asked for it, in terms of seeing them ;)

  2. I'm usually the same way as far as just taking photos of what I'm actually wearing (I also aim to be the best dressed person in the cereal aisle, so there's something we have in common), but I do tend to tweak a little bit for photos. If I'm not already wearing lipstick, I'll put some on, or maybe swap out more comfortable walking around shoes for better looking heels. Admittedly, though, if something looks really terrible and I actually need to have decent photos, I might change my outfit.
I do like the comfy knit dress with the sleeveless top over it. I like the little bit of the pattern that peeks out from the arm hole in the photos from the back, it seems like it helps tie things together, if that makes any sense. The accessories are really nice as well, matching without being too "matchy-matchy."

    1. That's true - I don't actually, or I didn't at least, wear lipstick as much on my weekends as I appear to in this post. Because I feel like it finishes an outfit and looks good in photos, I wear it so much more these days thanks to blogging virtually everything I ever wear!! And I'm guilty of the heel swap... although I really don't do that very often, mostly because I tend to buy mostly comfy shoes as I can't stand anything that makes my feet ache!

Glad you like the outfit - I was quite pleased with the accessorising in particular. The glasses were actually bought for a costume that I'll share soon... I loved them so much I suddenly found myself wearing them all the time!

    1. He's now been in a few days and asides from a minor disagreement about the fact he'd bought a blue towel into my house where towels must be WHITE, all is going well ;)

  4. Fabulous outfit and styling, dear gal. I utterly adore your red flats!!! I have red patent (faux) leather pumps, but not flats or sandals, and seeing yours suddenly makes me yearn for a pair immensely (*adds to thrift store wish list immediately*).

Congrats to you both on this exciting new chapter in your life together!

    1. The flats were such a bargain - they were £10! I love red shoes, they make any outfit instantly more exciting, don't you think?!

Thanks for the congrats :) x

  5. Wow, you have a banging body, girl! I absolutely love that wiggle dress on you. I used to be okay with showing off my backside but ever since I had the baby it's not so nice anymore, haha! I need to get some squats in!

Good luck with your bf moving in! I moved in with my boyfriend (now husband) years ago and he's been the best roommate I've ever had. It was the best experience!

    1. Phew, I actually thought I looked a bit on the 'someone's been enjoying a few more summer ice creams than usual' side in these shots! So that's really reassuring! I've always had a proportionately sizable rear, and it does look like of, er, 'obvious', in this outfit... so reassuring to hear it's a good thing!!!

I'm very excited about the future with B - it feels more concrete now we've made the step of joining our lives together this way. And are doing grown-up things like buying coffee tables! x

  6. I love how this is a bit casual, I think it's the flats, but it's still super sexy - looking hot to trot! No wonder B is keen to set up a love nest with you. Best of luck with it all, it's very exciting and I can't wait to see your 'home' posts in the future!

As for my own posts, I started off just posting dressy stuff but these days I do the less vintagey stuff too and am surprised that people seem to like that just as much, so I am more comfortable posting the casual looks as well. Of course, sometimes lovely outfits don't get shown because I'm having too much fun and have drunk too many martinis, and am thus unable to hold the camera steady enough to get a selfie ;)

    1. As I said above, was worried this was a bit tighter than was flattering, so glad if it's coming across more sexy than sausage! Thanks for the good wishes... I'll be happy about my home posts too as it will mean I've actually managed to sort the darn thing out... which at this point is feeling like it's going to take a while!

I do love your casual looks just as much as your vintage ones, actually! Both are good, in different ways. I kind of like the 'realness' of seeing how people dress for the everyday, it always gives me good ideas for my own casual wear. But I also love seeing beautiful vintage dresses and fab 'dos - I still remember your flapper inspired look from probably about a year ago now, that was great! And yes, if I'm dressed up for a purpose - like for a wedding last weekend - I don't even pretend to myself anymore I'll get photos while I'm there! x

  7. I don't know about the 'dressy' and 'everyday' distinction. If I think too much about how I select outfits my head starts to hurt. However, all of these outfits I would wear, or have actually worn outside, cause what else is the point?

Love yours. especially the shoes, so cute! and I wish I could pull off skirts like that :)

    1. That's true, sometimes it really is possible to overthink it! And if you wouldn't wear stuff outside but your pictures are taken outside... that's kind of an interesting thought in itself! I think the key to pulling off skirts like this is to wear them with confidence and have accessories that help to make it less 'look at me, I'm so tight!' hence the denim shirt and large bowler bag seen here ;)

  8. Who cares if you're a little overdressed (which I don't think you are), because I'd say over is definitely better than underdressed! This style suits your figure so well and I love your vintage-y style. I do sometimes - well, quite often - post outfits that are dressier than I actually wore on that particular day, but that I could quite easily have worn on another occasion. I don't tend to post outfits that I'd never wear, it seems pointless!
Thanks for commenting on my blog by the way, I'm really glad to have found yours! Followed you on bloglovin :)

    1. I prefer overdressed too! I'd be mortified if I was ever underdressed for anything. I think I do that too re posting outfits that are dressier than I'd typically wear on your average day - but then, I also find my style has changed to incorporate this approach and I actually find myself reaching for the less casual stuff generally now. I've followed yours too, I'm excited to read more :)

    1. Thanks! I don't really like much of Motel's stuff usually as it tends to be so short it verges on indecent, but the odd piece I've fallen in love with. This dress being one, and some tropical print capris being another: http://cici-marie.blogspot.co.uk/2014/07/outfit-tropical-trousers-are-back.html

  10. i often get people saying 'where are you going, you're so dressed up!' (or similar) when i'm just wearing my normal clothes, haha. when it comes to blogging my clothes, it's always what i've been wearing all day, or have changed into to wear if i've been inside all day. i wouldn't say i'm dressy ..but i do find some people think anything more than jeans and a tshirt is dressy though, haha.

you've made me realise i don't have any red shoes, and i would love some! i shall be on the lookout. and i love your sunglasses too :)

  11. I've just stumbled upon your blog and you've got a new follower - you have such style lady! I love how your outfits are beautifully classic and yet still comfortable looking (kind of like a Reitmans commerical, but better). Good luck with the new roomie, that's a BIG step!
