Outfit: polka dot skirt and the sea breeze

Taking you back in time to when I was at the coast earlier this summer... And it was basically raining the whole time, apart from the morning we took these photos (for approximately 3 glorious hours) and the last day, when we managed to get some more photos in. Don't anyone say I'm not a committed blogger ;) Especially as it was absolutely freezing taking these photos. Ever taken photos on a beach in the UK before? Then, my friends, you will understand what the words 'sea breeze' (hurricane) really mean. Not a single one of the curls I had in the ends of my hair lasted in the battering to make it into these pictures!

This wasn't my most inspired outfit ever, but having bought this skirt thinking I'd be able to wear it with loads of things, I soon found not very much actually went very well at all. Funny how that happens, isn't it? It's also a bit of a weird length - this neither short-nor-long length just looks a bit frumpy on me I think. So let that be a lesson to you - adhere to the length of skirt you know suits you when you're buying online...

Perhaps I get bonus points for the nautical-ish colour scheme and great backdrop? I also got a little bit inventive with a headscarf...

  1. Love this outfit! I think the skirt looks great on you! I know what you mean about that awkward length... I just got a dress that's at an awkward length and I'm in a love/hate relationship with it right now!

    1. I really feel like I need to either throw things like this out or take the step to get them hemmed... but it's just so much effort, isn't it?! x

  2. Polkadot twins! :-) The weather over the weekend was really terrible, although a bit of rain was overdue - typical british weather.. never trust it! You look lovely in this out! x

  3. Wait, hold on here - are you telling me it rains in Britain? O_O
Despite your uncooperative weather, you look darling. That skirt is great, and as always, I adore what you've done with your hair. You've got a real knack for styles that look a little Edwardian, and I think that adds a really nice element to your outfits.

    1. I know - and it's not like I talk about the rain in pretty much every blog post ;)

I have never thought of my hairstyles as Edwardian... I'll take it though! With the half-up dos I'm usually aiming for more of a mini beehive, but it tends to just become something else every time. I'll just keep hoping it works :)

    1. There'd be something summery about that combination... if it didn't look like the sky was about to empty its contents over my head!

  5. I think despite the gloomy background the pictures turned out beautiful! And I am impressed with your commitment taking pictures in the cold, I've really struggled to this winter :P

    1. I guess the depressing thing is about 12-14 degrees, as it probably was, is pretty much the norm here! Let's see how I do in *real* winter shall we... :S

    1. :) I wish I loved the skirt a little bit more - need to find a way to wear it I really like I think, but so hard when it doesn't match anything!! x

  8. Woo, these photos are superb!! You look fantastic. I think the skirt is adorable, but I think it's a length I haven't seen you in before - I think you either go shorter or longer? Maybe that's why it feels weird on you. Is there room to take the hem down? It's always a disappointment when something you think you'll get loads of wear out of it just hangs forlornly in the wardrobe. Anyway, super duper photos pretty lady! xx

    1. That's right, I would usually go much shorter or longer - you're probably right that the reason I'm not sure about it is because it feels really weird to me! I don't think there's much excess to let down, as it's just a cheap modern skirt... I'll try again, maybe in the winter it could look cute with a hat and a jumper :) glad you like the photos by the way, makes the effort feel worth it :) x
