Outfit: a tropical bargain

I do love a good bargain and my £3 find before I went to Rome this year was a strapless top with a bright tropical pattern that was part of Matalan's beach cover-up range. Matalan is not somewhere I would usually shop, the quality is usually awful and the styles frumpy, but I came across this when searching for a beach towel and I think I'll be casting my eye over their wares more regularly from now on.

For £3 I wasn't expecting anything of the 'support shelf' and I was right not to... although it was the only thing I could stand to wear when I'd sunburnt my back badly (idiot). But I was also expecting a very thin jersey top that was ill-fitting and probably rode up, but this does neither. One of my happier bargain finds. And I love the pattern.

I can wear it with a floaty skirt and light lipstick for a girly look (not sure why my camera did such a blurry job here!)...

Top: Matalan
Skirt: Limited Collection, Marks & Spencer
Sandals: Marks & Spencer
Lipstick: Designer, Revlon ColorStay Ultimate Suede

Or pair it with a fitted skirt and an up-do for a more elegant summer holiday look. And indeed, as this rather exotic background shows, it was ideal for strolling around Italy in the heat of the evening before sauntering into a restaurant. I'd do anything to be back there right now!

Top: Matalan
Skirt: H&M (old)
Bag: eBay
Sandals: Swedish Hasbeens
Lipstick: Stay With Me Coral, Maybelline SuperStay Lipstick

Just a few more weeks of sun, please... let my top have its day!
