Make-up: orange-red lipstick

Before I started wearing red lipsticks, weirdly I began with orange. A much harder colour to wear for most people, but I liked that retro orangey red lip look and was determined to try. Luckily for me, it worked! I think orange lips are such a lovely summery thing - and looking out at the snow (snow?!) perhaps summer is still a long way off in the UK, but there's always nights out!

The first thing to say is that, sadly, the orange lipstick I own that is made by Ruby & Millie doesn't seem to exist anymore. So I'll give you some suggested alternatives for orange-reds at the end of this post... and hopefully these pictures will help give you an idea of the colour I'm working with.

It looks very bright orange - with a hint of red - in the tube and on my arm, but when on my lips...

... Suddenly a much more classsy and toned-down orange-red!

Lots of natural light

Orange lipstick is one of those things that you truly don't know how it will look on you until you try it, I think. You might assume it will look awful and then be pleasantly surprised! I've seen it look absolutely wonderful with a suntan - a real pop of summer colour.

Alternatives

Even eBay don't seem to have any tubes left of my beloved Ruby & Millie lipstick, so you're probably going to have to source an alternative if you want to try this look yourself...

Here's a few I've come across:

Bold - Clarins Joli Rouge Lipstick - Orange Fizz

Softer - Revlon Super Lustrous Lipstick - Siren

Red-toned (for if you fear the orange!) - Mac Matte Lipstick - So Chaud

Bright orange - Morange - Mac
